Should a groom look after on their own? I don't think there is a written rule as such but what do you think is reasonable?
Obviously it is different if some live out and some are in.

10 stabled max and thats pushing it- depends if theyre expected to exercise as well really. If all need to be exercised then 5 is the max I'd expect.

When I worked at Frogpool in the 80's, I had 6 horses that I looked after, this included mucking/turning out, strapping, quartering, tack cleaning and riding as well as other yard duties

i had 20 horses to look after on my own rode 5 mucked out 8 fields 12 stables feed and watered morning and night i slept well

I used to look after 10 - 5 were on full livery and 5 were part but as the yard was a bit odd we also used to feed, TO and muckout everything apart from 2 so between three of us we did fifty three horses am, then our 'own' ones for the rest of the day.

I think it depends on what u expect them to do - if it's just TO, muckout and groom or ride as well etc.

10 max if stabled.

depends on how well they want the horses done. When I did SJs i did five, eventers-four, p2ps-five and hunters-six. In my opinion if the owner wants his horses kept spotless, exercised etc plus the yard and tack etc kept as it should be then no more than six.My groom does nine-mucking out , feeding, turning out, bringing in then doing feet, brushing over, skipping out and feeding. He keeps the yard clean, does the waterers/mangers once a week and poo picks once a week. It may sound a lot but my liveries are OAPs and not ridden. Although I have a groom, I still do a fair share myself. M.
