I have to take my boy on a 215 mile journey next week - he will travel in an Ifor Williams 505 with the partition removed (hes a wide boy!). The AA route finder says it will take about 4 hours 40 mins and it A14 and A1 for 170 of the miles- allowing for traffic and traveling slower I imagine it will take longer. We only usually go on short journeys.

How long should I drive without stopping to give him water and a bit of a rest? I am hoping to arrange traveling one day, with sedation later in the day for the stuff he has to have done and traveling home the next day making it 430 miles round trip

if he has a big haynet full of wet hay, i wouldn't stop at all tbh. he won't get dehydrated, and it'll be better and safer to complete the journey in 1 go. otherwise, if you have to stop for fuel, i'd see if he wants a drink then.

We have travelled one 200 miles,
We stopped halfway to have driver break, for about 15 mins.
You should not drive 5 hrs without a break, and unless dehyrated, probably would not be able to!.
Are you going alone or with a helper.
I'd take some water for horse and a drink and snack for you.

Look on maps OR

for somewhere to pull in, but do not unload him.

thanks to everyone for the replies - there are two of us going to share the driving so perhaps we can stop half way to change over and give him a break.
