Not sure about miles, it takes 10 mins in the car (but as someone else has said most of that is going really slow over horrible bumps and potholes leading to the yard). 20-30 mins walking.

80 mile round trip
1 hr to 1 hr 10 minutes on the way there [rush hour traffic]
50 minutes on the way back
I do this 4-5 times a week

Is there no where closer for you?

There probably is, but the facilities, help, support, knowledge, kindness, value .... are all very hard to replicate. We are moving house [for work commitments] so hopefully it wont be for much longer.
A number of reasons which I won't go into(!) but the main ones being they have lights in the schools (soon to have 3 schools!) and my current yard doesn't. Also my school is really deep now which doesn't help my boy (SI and hock problems). It's going to cost me an extra £20 per week (DIY) though so I've been umming and ahhing about it for ages trying to justify the cost!
1.48 miles (according to AA route planner) and takes 3 mins in the car - only ever walk it in the summer when I have loads of time - it's up a steep hill...
I can just see the top of the stables from my bedroom window
