How many of us let go and let them choose the pace?

Strong feeling of envy :o it's been ages since I've had a decent canter in the open. Love your method MrsB :)
My RI took pity on me recently and as there were no obstacles lying about in the school she took up my stirrups a few notches and off we went for a few circuits of the school at not quite a flat out pace but near enough for me to get one huge trill from it. Love the feeling feeling him move easily beneath me his neck stretched out and ears perked up :) he loved it and so did I. I think having a track set up to use as a gallop would be on my top wish list too. However if current plans pan out I'll have a large beach to let loose on...yippee

I am talking about those moments on good safe ground where you just say come on let's go :) and you put all your trust into your horse!
I am moving back to an area with loads of these spaces :) and for me there is nothing more rewarding than handing my life over to super pony and knowing she will look after me while we whoop our way across the countryside :)
I know it's not entirely correct in horse riding but it's such a lovely feeling!
Yep I had complete trust in my boy, [though that only worked one way], one day I took him down a new bridleway I discovered by accident, he had been confined for a few days, I found a route to turn round , but unusual for him he was "ready to go" the path was muddy, but with right angled corners, I was pretty sure no one would be on the path and off we went [involuntary]............ definitely exciting, did manage to steady him up at the corners and make sort of "get out off the way noises"!!!! we were not going at full tilt, but still a bit too fast!
