How many of us liveries CAN turn out as much as we want??

There seems to be an awful lot of people who are on yards with limited turnout. We can do what we want at our yard - yes, the fields are wet, but they'll get over it!

We've got new people moving on very soon, and had one last week, because their YO had limited/banned the turnout.

Just wondering how many others who keep their horses at livery CAN turnout as much as they want??

Yes we have unlimited turn out all year (specially agreed by YO for my horses and one other persons). I would never be at a yard with very limited or no turnout. Mine live out at night all year.

We are allowed as much turnout as we want, when my sisters horse got too mad from being in they even let us change to 24/7 out. Pickle goes out all day every day when he isnt being ridden. The fields are muddy but the'll recover!
 
Nope. They can go out 24/7 in summer, but are then on daily TO in winter. Although this week they have only had one afternoon out

I can't, you can have what you like including 24/7 from April to nov, but then it is just daily turnout - except at the moment the fields are so wet that the YO won't allow us to turn out because she is worried the horses will do themselves a damage. Mind you at the yard I came from it was a nightmare, out 8.30-12.30 even in the summer and probably an hour a day in the winter if you're lucky! Thankfully we do at least have a horsewalker now.
 
Yes over a 100 acres at our place, turnout all year round, but mine are in at night out in the day. Feilds are quite well drained I would not be at a place were the turnout was limited.

Yeah, i know what you mean. There are 8 yards within about 5 miles of our yard/farm and all of them limit the turnout. They all have arenas, which we dont, but i couldnt not have turnout. Molly gets in a massive strop and runs around her stable if we try to leave her in! Our YO is an arable farmer and has only had horses at his farm for the past 4 years. They were amazed the first winter at what the horses do to the fields! Although they're not nearly as bad as some! Here's our field (about 3 acres) yesterday

Very wet by the gate, but fine once you're past it. Still wet, but not muddy.
Other 6 acre field is muddier, but even that's starting to recover already, with the mild weather.

We get to do what we want too. A few of us just rent the yard from the YO then agree who has what fields. Its then down to us to manage our grazing. They do get wet, but soon recover in spring. It means It means my horse gets plenty of turnout and I can fit him in around work. I don't think I could manage with limited turnout.
 
It should depend on the nature of the ground, and/or extreme weather conditions. If you're on heavy clay ground (unavoidable in places like Bedfordshire) you probably don't want your horses out in it, unless they are quiet, due to the risk to tendons in heavy deep mud. If the fields are under water (cf Nuala's pictures) you can't turn out, however much you want to.
 
Note also in Cheshire, well like I said we have the turnout but no facilities got stables but no school etc I suppose you have to way up what your priorities are when looking for somewhere for me its the turnout for my friend who is competes a school is of importance, glad I am a happy hacker really.
 
At my old yard we had unrestricted turnout, but they used to put bales of hay out and my horse would stand there all day and all night eating, so sometimes I had to bring him in to restrict his intake. I thought the yard I had moved to was unrestricted but last winter we were asked to bring them in at night due to the muddy ground, this year it was December before I was asked to keep them in at night but the time is unrestricted so I turn them out at 6.30am and they aren't brought in again until 6.30pm, we'll be told when we can start leaving them out 24/7 depending on the ground condition.
 
We have 24/7 turnout in summer but at the min they all come in at night (before 6). However with the snow yesterday and rain yesterday evening plus -3 temperatures the yard is one big ice rink so they have had to stay in today as it would be dangerous to try and walk them over it. This is the first day they have ever had to stay in and they will haopefully get a few hours this afternoon.

I have two horses and two paddocks so it's up to me how I manage them. I do keep them in sometimes in the day if the weather is really bad - espesh if it's windy as I don't want them to tank round. The fields will be harrowed in the spring and I'll chuck some grass seed down on the bare bits while the paddock is rested - should be fine

I wouldn't like to be on restricted turnout - my horses would go nuts!
 
We do daily turn out but we're not restricted by what time we have to take them out or bring them in in the evening. The YO brought all the boys in last night because they were being idiots in the wind. The filed is muddy by the gate but after that it drains well and the YO keeps putitng chippings down near the gate to make it a tad easier.
 
We seem to be the lucky ones...
Where my horse is stabled we can turn out all year round, every day.
It is a livery yard so the horses have a routine of going out and coming in - which suits my horsey best...summer months you can turn out at night if you want too.
The only mud is round the gates..which barely goes over fetlocks anyway...so lucky in that respect too.
 
24/7 365 days of the year in a huge post and rail field.

I wouldn't even consider a yard without all year turnout.
 
We have day turn out in the winter and 24 hrs in the summer so not really that restricted.

And in the winter we could turn out at 5am if we wanted and bring in at 8pm or something
 
I can!!fields and grass are crap and wet but we can still put them out, but then again its only a farm with about 12 horses and very crappy/muddy

But its fine for keeping horses so im happy, but i would kill for a nice indoor school, horse walker, cross country course and a hose where the water never runs out!!!!!!!!

My yard has 24/7 turnout! But I keep mine in at night from oct to March. The rest of the liveries dont give a dam about the grazing!! their horses are out 24/7 so the field is now very poached with no grass. We are not allowed to feed hay!!

I wish we had restricted grazing so the fields didnt get in such a state!
 
We can turn out as much as we want at our yard. In winter the horses have to come in at night, but can go out in the day whatever the weather/conditions if we want to turn out. In summer they can live out 24/7. There is no set date for winter to begin and end either, it is based on the weather and when each individual owner feels it is time for winter to start.

We are very lucky though, as lots of YO's round here don't allow any turnout in this weather.
