We have never restricted our liveries turn out - they have winter fields which will obviously get muddy but they have always recovered but we're lucky to have so much acreage for the amount of horses we have here... I'd hate to be ona yard where I couldn't turn my horse out as much as I wanetd...
Us DIYers on the yard have unlimited turnout as we have our own field (there's only three of us) which is well away from all the other fields a short walk through the village, and YO has basically said we can do what we want with it as long as we maintain it ourselves. It's divided into two and the winter patch resembles a lake at the moment, but as soon as they move onto the summer patch it will clear up in no time and we roll it etc ourselves. Looks like new by midsummer.
They come in at night though in winter purely for convenience's sake, as we all ride early in the morning before work/uni and want them clean and dry
Plus when they're clipped it's nice to have them rugged up inside on frosty nights.
On the main yard the part and full liveries get very little to no turnout, I think because unlike us they will not maintain the field themselves.
Yes at my DIY yard where i keep alisha we can turn out as much as we like
At the college where jig is stabled at mo they have NO turnout
He seems to like it though, he never has been one to enjoy turnout in the winter
Alisha would go crazy with no turnout so could never have her on a yard where it was restricted! They all have to be in at night in the winter, but can turn and bring in whatever time we want and have 24/7 turnout in the summer
