How many of you actually own horses?

I have Snowy (own) and have been given a "special" horse who the owner is terrified of, Kestrel. Kestrel works well for me as although hes mine care wise (can move yards etc with him and am responsible for him) the owner will always pay for him and at the moment still does his jobs I just handle/ride etc!! Shes fortunate enough to have 3 horses she can easily afford :)

I have two, a tb and an idxwb. Looking for a pony for my 1yo daughter at the moment, as will also be useful to have something to nanny my two (they're not very good at being left alone, whether it be in the field or stable!). If another exracer popped up, that was genuine I wouldn't say no either ;) Wouldn't mind a project that I could compete with, as my current tb is quite neurotic and doesn't cope too well in a bustling environment (had a long time in racing so I figured he's had enough of serious stuff and I just let him have a bumble about with me!) and the idx is arthritic.

So I currently have two, but may have 4 soon!!! (may be an idea to wait until winters over though, my daughter will then be 2 so may be able to train her up to help muck out!!) ;)

I have 4, which seems odd to say as have been a bit lax about counting my foal as one as its taken me so long to get her sometimes I just can't believe she's here!

They are;

My first horse & love of my life who I've had since I was 15 & she was 2. She's 14.3hh Welsh x TB

Her foal who is coming up to 6mths, her dad is Welsh x Fresian.

A 14.1hh NF mare, she is nearly 9 and have had her since she was a foal.

And my lovely little shetland, she's 40" & 10 yrs old, have had her nearly 6 years!

I own mine, wouldn't loan again as i lost a pony i had on loan and its taken me years to get over it. But i can see how it works better for some people and there are loads of good loan stories, its just not somthing i would risk again.

I have two, a little 12.2 Dartmoor cross for my children and a lovely little Highland youngster who is going to be for me. They are both sweeties and I love having them in my life!

I own 2.5. Dolly was my first horse. Shared her for a couple of years, then OH bought her for my 30th birthday. She is the first horse I have ever owned, and really is all I ever wished for as a little girl apart from being a 16hh coloured Mare and not a 15.2 bay Gelding!:D

I got Mac about a year after Doll was bought for me. I wasn't looking for another horse, but he was on our yard, owner wasn't coming up much, so I took pity on him and mucked him out etc, and then out of the blue she sold him to me for a token amount.

Bren belongs to my friend, but I look after him for her.

I own 3! Love them all but hard work as you can imagine! Kinzzy is my one in a million, she's 11 now and a piebald trad cob. Teddy 2 Shoes is a 14 month clyde x trad cob and Parkside Shere Khan is a standard size black shetty aged 7....he's a total dude!

I have three half horses so I guess that makes me the owner of one and a half horses!

I have 4:

Retired 15hh piebald cob, he was my first "pony" (still owned by my mum because I was so young)
23 yr old connemara, my 2nd pony, he's semi retired but goes to the odd show every year with the kids
2yr old TBx - my new baby
Standard Shetland we rescued 5/6 years ago, know nothing about her but she's between 25-30 yrs old and acts as nanny to the TB

Love them all to bits

Technically I only 'own' one and that's my now 2yo I bought last summer (first ever unbroken purchase). However, I have 3 but my mum bought the other two so, although they are 'mine' (although my mum rides my horse as well) I don't actually own them in the legal sense.

I now only have one (it was 3) but I think Ned is lucky to have you as his rider / carer etc. I've done this in the past and it was great experience. As long as you are happy riding Ned, then keep on with it and see where it takes you. There are no rules saying one must own one's riding / competing horse is there! Have funxx

Between us my family own 2 TBs and have one Welsh B on full loan

We've had this chap on full loan for about 9 years, recently his owner has begun to split costs with me as my daughter has outgrown him but we can't find anyone suitable for him who is willing to take him on at our yard

First horse, ex racer bought as 3yo, is now 7. We do our best for her, she is challenging in every sense of the word, but we have learned so much because of her I am grateful. We tried re-homing her with an allegedly more experienced home which was a flop, we appealed to ex racer charities, we took many calls from people who must have missed the "Not a Novice Ride" part of the ad and decided to just keep her and turn her away for a bit and see what happened. We were too novice and never should have bought her, I feel so bad because if she'd been bought by people who knew what they were doing she'd be a star today, I am sure of it.

Second horse bought this June, also a TB, who raced as a youngster. He's 11, he is a total star, so easy in all ways, and seems to really enjoy his life with us

So there you go, our 2 horses and 1 loan pony!

I've previously shared two with my mum. We sold the first, and the second died of colic recently. Mum then bought (got given) a pony - she's not mine at all, but I will be riding her next year. So no, I don't own one!

I owned a horse from 1972-1977 (ish) then was too ill to continue, part of my illness was due to horse allergy. I gave my boy to a friend. Until two years ago I kept away from horses...

Then I discovered the allergy had almost gone away! This summer I've taken the plunge and bought a horse again. I don't earn much money (I work with learning disabled adults, it's not well paid) so it's a struggle, but I'm very happy about it.

So, I'm fairly hewly returned to riding, and horse owning, at 55.

Old enough to know better.

I'm interested to know! It seems like everyone does, apart from me!

I know I often talk like I own Ned, but I don't. I've never really 100% owned one, but I used to (my parents used to) loan ponies when I was really young.
Still, I couldn't be happier that I get to ride Ned and pretty much do what I like with him. I think I have a pretty good deal :D

Anyway, I'm just rambling XD
Who owns a horse!

Me!! Love them to pieces - wouldnt be without them xx
