How many of you actually turn your horses out daily?

2 of mine live out all year, my gelding is stabled over night and riden 8am everyday then turned out until 5pm, when the weather is terrible i put him out while i muck out etc. then bring him in if he wants in as in the poiring rain he just paces at the gate.

Everyday sun rain or snow, they tend to live out 24-7 from April to October, one of mine would be a real handful if left in too much, I think most horses should go out everyday we have people at ours that wont turnout in rain or wind, I think as long as they can get some shelter from rain wind and hot sun they are happier out.

We are lucky at my yard as we are able to have as much turnout as we want. The ponies at our yard are out 24/7. I wouldn't be at a yard were there wasn't unlimited turnout.

My and my mums TB's go out at around 7.30 (8.30 if ridden) and I am bringing them in at 3.30/4. If I leave them out untill dark they get fractious and my mums horse who is used to living inside at racing yard goes mad galloping around. They get bored out in the cold field with nothing much to eat and being TB's need to come in for their bucket of feed, bale of hay and 100 rugs lol. However they go out no matter what the weather, like they have to come in, they also have to go out! If I'm late in the morn my mums horse starts crying and digging up his bed.

If I had a native type I would def have it living out 24/7! Our TB's spend more time out in the summer where they go out at night and in during the day :)

Well, im not happy, this morning I went to turn him out, and half hr later I can still hear him naying his head off as all the others are in and the yo said il have to bring him back in as no one else is going out today.
For gods sake it's just a little windy and the odd shower, he has to stand in all day now until I can get there about 6pm and then take him for a walk.

I think ive made the wrong choice of yards, although everything else seems great there. :(

6.30am till 3.30pm in the winter, come rain or shine or snow. 24/7 in the summer.

I would never ever ever go to a yard that didn't allow me to turnout my horses out for as long as I wanted to. End of!

Mine go out before work everyday at half past seven and come in again at about six. Unless the ground is so waterlogged that they will drown they are out. I don't want them in making a mess in their stables and needing their hay constantly topped up.

In winter they get hay in the field so they aren't just shivering the whole time but they are out come rain or shine!

Exactly this when i was at a livery yard, but have now moved them so they can live out. I had a text from one of the girls at the old yard the other day saying that she had gone down there in the morning and everyone else had left theirs in because it was a bit windy and wet!!

Mine used to have a few days in when the YO fertilized. One of my fields used to get water laying on it so i just turned out in the other one!

Mine is out every day - regardless of how wet and windy it is. The were in a bit during the snow last year but he did spend some time out in the paddock with hay. Don't believe in keeping horses stabled for any great length of time.

Mine goes out every single day - from 8/9 until 4/5
If rain is torrential he sometimes stay in for a few hours until its calmed down/the ground's drier, as he is prone to mud fever.

I keep mine out 24/7 all year round. I have 2 large stables so easily enough room to bring my horse in and the 2 retired ponies, but what's the point? I cannot understand why so many people stable by default. It just means more work and expense for the owner and an unhappy horse. Very few horses IMO would ever choose to be in. Mine have access to their stables at all times (I just leave the doors open) - to be honest the horse only ever chooses to come in if its really wet and windy or snowy. The 2 ponies do use them more frequently, but I'd never close them up in there getting stiff.

At my yard we do have 365day turnout and for aslong as you like but due to my boy being a wuss in winter he spends alot of time inside. He generally gets an hour or so on the school if its snowy , so he can play while i muck out! If its really windy and rainy and cold he stops in from his own choice. He just doesnt like his face getting wet so stops in with door open onto yard! Obv if v icy they stay in 24/7 so dont slip.

I've been at yards with restricted turn out and my mare was not amused. So I moved her to the only yard in my area that offers guaranteed 365 day a year turn out. During summer she's out 24/7 and is chilled and happy. In winter when the weather turns awful she comes in over night but goes out every day, no matter what the weather. She's happy to go out and happy to come in to her warm, fluffy bed. We're lucky that the yard owner really believes in turn out. Horses are only kept in if they're on boxrest for medical reasons.

Yep, in the week turned out 7.30 before work and brought in between 4 and 5.30 depening what time i finish work and how bad the weather is. Even when it is pouring with rain the seem keen to go out and are never hovering at the gate in the evening although they both trot over when i call them to come in, but only cause they know its dinner time :)

Every day without fail come hail rain shine or snow! He is in at night to keep his weight stable but out every day from 5.30am to 7.00pm.

Because our fields get trashed in the winter, we do alternate days of turnout, mares/geldings. That's December to March/April. Otherwise, all horses can go out every day, 24/7 if desired and all owners do take advantage of that at my yard.

Mine are out between 8 and 13 hours a day year round. Even in heavy snow they are turned out, although last year it was only for 4 hours a day. They would be out 24/7 if one wasn't recovering from injury and the other prone to laminitis.

They would only be kept in if they were on box rest for a medical reason.

My two are out from 7am till 5ish in the winter and out 24/7 in the summer, think they would quite happily stay out all night in winter too but they're clipped and need them clean and dry at weekends if hunting etc.

Looks like I'm the odd one out here.

Horses are often in 24/7 in the winter if fields are wet (allowed out if there is a frost), YM likes to protect them which means when they do go out we have amazing grazing all year round.
Lacey is turned out in the play pen for 45mins-1hr one end of the day and ridden the other end.
She's very settled and like the comfort of her stable, mainly because she uses the stable door to support her neck as she spends all day snoozing!

I rent a yard so I can decide when my lot go out, but they dont always go out for full days now it gets dark so early.

They generally go out about 9.30 (or the ones I dont ride do...), and then have been coming in at about 1.30/2ish. I have kids to fetch from school so it is easier for me if the horses are in before the kids come home so our evening is not so rushed!

The horses are very happy to come in at that time anyway.....there is very little grass for them to eat already, and they are very chilled on the yard!

I dont like to keep them in totally, though I did for several days in all the snow last year. The road I have to walk them down to get to the fields was like an ice rink, so it was a safety issue then!

They do live out 24/7 in the summer, but I am sure they would actually really rather come in!

Ditto this! 15 Year old TB, he's a wimp in wet weather but I just buy really good rugs to ensure he's not ever wet or cold. If he's in he can get stiff and I have to bandage as his legs fill up (if that's not a good enough reason to keep him out anyway!!) and he windsucks. Person we bought him off insisted he was to come in at night during winter but tbh he's so happy and healthy out! He has three other horses with him in a big field, hedges on three sides. Happy as anything! I've only ever had him in when he colicked once and at pony camp, there's no option of turnout there!! xx
