Am thinking of paying full membership to local hunt (Meynall), have only just moved horse to area and have got info through today.

Different to what I'm used to (Rockwood Harriers) RE the pricing structure! Seems like if I want to go a bit the only thing to do is go a lot and become a member.

Think I'm just going to go for it but it's a lot of money for me when I'm also poor anyway! Just wondered how many of you are full members and if you think it's worth it?

Also - would it be wise to pay full subs to a hunt I have never been with and don't know anyone?

Thanks

Im a full member of my hunt but I do hunt 2 days a week and maybe even 3 so my sub is worth it I would go hound excersice and auterm hunt and see how u like that phone the secretary up and explain your situation and i'm sure they will sort something out for you you don't normally have to pay for the latter if you are subscribing .

I would talk to the Secretary and start off with hound exercise and autumn hunting, just to make sure it's the sort of hunt you want to follow/country you want to cross.

a lot of hunts also take monthly direct debit payments to pay your sub so it's not a huge chunk all at once

When you've fallen in love with the Meynell hedges, then you'll be throwing your sub at the Secretary !! :)

I am also a full subscriber and pay by standing order monthly - this method of payment also includes cap so do not have to pay anything on the day either (except for raffle!!).
Would find it hard to pay a full sub otherwise......

With most hunts you can pay for a book of tickets for so many days. With us it is 6. You can then see how you like it. As the others have said go out Autumn hunting and see how it goes. I am sure that in the current economic climate they would be happy to do what they can to accomodate you.

Thanks guys.

I can't decide what to do!!! You can do 6 days but that is £600 and one of those days you have to be a gate shutter... Not that I mind gate shuttering but it seems a lot of money for 6 days when the full sub is not that much more.

They offer a monthly DD thing which I will definitely do if I go ahead - very helpful! They said I could try it out Autumn hunting and then they would refund me if I decided to join but I can't really afford it unless I do the monthly payments, which start this month.

I've only heard good things about the meynall so I can't see how I'd not like it... Got to be more fun than indoor SJ... Right??

Can someone decide for me please!

Me and OH are full subscribers, £1800  but the season before he broke his back, we managed enough days that it worked out at £18 a day each :) after his season as a foot follower, we are hoping to get a full season together this winter :)

I would speak to the secretary and see what they say :)

Do they offer any discounts for being Under 25??

Yes they do but unfortunatley I'm not under 25! Damn!!! From the wording of the letter I think they are willing to give me a 20% discount on full membership so it's actually quite reasonable...

I think I'm just going to go for it.

most hunts will let you do a couple of days on a visitors cap before you pay your full sub (and some will even take that off your sub!), so there's no need to rush into it!

OH and I pay a full sub - well technically it's a family sub, but even tho its only the two of us it works out cheaper than two full individual subs! but compared to D_D_D's outlay we only pay £450 (for the 2 of us!)... the joys of living in the North!

Bloomin 'eck think i might suggest to OH that he returns to Yorkshire- i bet it would almost be worth the diesel for day visits...

Blimey that is expensive! I looked into subscribing last year and it was £500 for under 25's. With the best intentions I didn't manage to get out enough last year to make that amount worthwile. I'm paying a student cap so its only £30 and I went out less that 10 times.

Is it still worth subscribing considering how many days were lost to the awful weather this year? There were quite a few times I had planned to go out and decided not to because it was too icy/hard (I'm quite precious about my horse!)

OP i would say try a few days autumn hunting and then subscribe. Although if that means you miss out on the direct debit option then just go for it, its unlikely you are going to dislike the new hunt.

Not in the past but hopefully will be, however not this season due to my circumstances I havent been in a position to 1. Afford it and 2. Make it worth while.

I follow all the protocal when I do go out and pay a local visitors cap, as apposed to the expensive visitors cap.

Sorry not read all, if it's been said and dismissed ignore me. Speak to sec! They will do allsorts to get you in, and so they should :) just explain your situation and take it from there, if your local hunt is anything like mine, I got a dirt cheap pay on the day season''s hunting and a ton of help on the field, all jus cos they wanted us there/my sub/support. And they so got it! :)

See what she says, ask for serious discount as visitor for couple times with view to subscribing :) Or jus go on hound exercise, chat to field, find out from them? x

I looked at joining the meynell, but you pay a membership fee plus you then pay subs and a daily fee - or something like that! it comes to about twice as much per day on average than the Atherstone. We are neighbours to the Meynell, and i do live in meynell country but I prefer to travel and pay less!

Where abouts are you?

Keep my horse in Foston just off the A50. It's going to be just over £700 (that's with 20% discount) then £25 each time hunting and free cubbing.

I suppose that mine doesnt seem so bad as its a compound sub- nothing extra to pay on the day no matter how often we go out- ours is a joint sub so thats £1954 for both of us..

Yes I will be a full member this season after having a fantastic last season goin out as a pony clubber! Same hunt as D_D_D allthough as still a young subsricber, is a fair amount less, gave the cheque to the seceratry yesterday at the Festival! Roll on this season!!
