I don't like nets as, like someone else said, they encourage muscle in areas we don't want. But my boy is pretty greedy so gets 3/4 of his on the floor and then has a very small holed small net tied up.
I feed mine from the floor, natural eating position and I've found since putting it on the floor that it lasts a bit longer than when it did when I used to put it in a haynet.
Yes I do too, though I put it in a huge tug a trug thing (not sure what it's called, one of those massive buckets) and I am going to try and make one of these or buy one (www.hayledge.co.uk)
to put in it, as it will slow down eating. Though to be fair my mare eats her food and doesn't push it around her bed.
I would LOVE to feed from the floor but Ive tried it in the past and not only was half it in the bed next day, but a large proportion was also blowing around the yard.
Atleast if they can only pull out a small amount at a time they are more likely to stand and chew than lift it over the door and drop it.
I use small hole haynets with spring clips on the ropes to make hanging quicker and easier. No fiddley knots for me ! I make double nets up the night before to save time in the mornings.
do you mean the bit flexi trugs ? or the hard plastic ones with rope handles ? I would be worried about the plastic ones getting trod on and broken.... and the flexi ones getting tripped over in the stable... ??
Always feed from the floor, it's better for thier wind and more natural position to be eating from and no unwanted muscles under the neck.
My gelding used to pull his into his bed though so made a bar out of a blue barrel, cut at an angle and it is bolted to the wall, it also has cross over bunges init to hold the hay down and slow him down, but they will release if he decided to put his foot in it.
At my stables they like to feed them from nets but i insisted my two have it on the floor. My physio recomended this as it keeps them stretching out their backs and we were taught at college this way keeps their nose and eyes clear as less dust is spread around them
