how many of you have a double and travel with no partition?

I am glad to hear that so many people are successfully travelling without a partition.

Trev won't go anywhere near the trailer with the partition in place, even at the 3/4 setting, but will load quite happily without it. As soon as the farrier has finished making me a full width breast bar (old Rice) we will hopefully be on our way.

We use a length of chain threaded through a steel tube as a breast bar. the steel tube is covered by foam pipe lagging. I use headcollar clips attached to coach bolts fixed to the regular breast bar fittings. All the bits were available from local DIY store. It helped that our local metalworker owns trotters and knew what to sell me when I asked for a length of tube that would withstand a horse leaning on it. (The chain links fit in the headcollar clips and is consequently adjustable.)

This may be a stupid question (have only ever travelled a horse with partition) but without the partition and cross-tying, how do you gage what length do you tie the leadropes?

Without seeing it done, I envision horse stood in middle of trailer not being able to move much and therefore unable to eat hay?

Thanks :)

Well my horse doesn't have hay in the trailer, But I tie mine quite loosely. When the horse is stood in the middle of the trailer there is some slack in the rope, horse can stretch her neck out & can get her nose out / see out of the top door of the side ramp.

I bought a HB404 new in 2010 as I couldn't find the new style single secondhand, or when I did, it wasn't much less than new. I cross tie my 15.2 in it and she is very happy travelling (usually rubbing her tail on rear bar!). I have put a camera in, powered from a sealed motorbike battery, so I know what she is up to.

It is really easy to tow as I can see down the sides of the trailer as it is only as wide as my car. It is 3/4 as wide as the double and just as tall, so not the skinny singles that used to be around. I have even been offered a new double as a straight swap!

Travelled in a single trailer and it was fine. I think the horror stories all stem back from years ago. Modernization and what not has made the single trailers just as sturdy.

I do have my own double though and have taken the partition out. Pony loads better and has taken to standing diagonally in it for balance.
