I always use them with my mare as she has a tendancy to be behind the leg, she is uneasy/worried about schooling whips (her concerns come from before I owned her) and I want her to be relaxed in her work. She is fine with spurs, they don't upset her at all. I have confirmed (with 3 different trainers) that my leg is stable and still enough not to misuse them. I actually rarely (almost never) apply them as if I'm wearing them, she is in work mode and stays in front of my leg.

A great bit of kit for the right horse when used well I reckon

I used to use them for my pony as was very dead to the leg but didnt use them to school only to hack sometimes, jump and showing. Wouldnt dare use them on my 4yo!! i would gallop very swiftly across the school!!

My horses are all too sharp to need them, which is unfortunate as i have nice Stubben ones and also a boxed set of fancy Tuss ones with changeable heads

Always school in spurs, partly as horse is 16.3hh and I'm 5'3" so leg alone is usually not effective! Also prefer to give clear aid rather than nagging one.
