How many of you starting to get ready for showing

When did the starting gun go off for you, to start getting your animals ready for the showing season, seeing because of the cold weather a lot og them are only now starting to loose their coats.
 
Well our new boy has his first outing in 2 weeks time in a local racehorse to riding horse - aiming for RI qualifiers if he doesn't blow his top!! Despite being in the North East and having some horrendous weather he hasn't really grown much coat, he has been well rugged and had limited turnout though (his choice not ours-as soon as there's a hint of wind or drizzle he's at the gate begging to be back in his box!).
 
WELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL.... id wanted to be out doing dressage this month.. then start showing in april, but due to a HUGE bill on my flaming lorry, and horse currently on day 6 of some sort of virus im out of luck, had planned on Devon county being her first ever biggie, but now im looking at royal cornwall being her only major show of the year.

once neds better and lorry is back (again flaming thing) will go and do some dressage, and do some of the chaps/bspa shows. still have our qualification for SWPA champs and equifest though.

oh well the life of horses/lorries i guess at least my horse is only a 4yr and this year was about her ring craft/experiance. still dissapointing though.
 
January is when I start thinking about coats and rugging etc. Summer coat coming through nicely now so should be looking good in time for the winter champs at Easter.
 
First show in 6 weeks and counting... not long now. Started properly getting ready about 6 weeks ago but really picked up the pace in the last couple of weeks and schooling schooling schooling!! :)
 
Yep.started 5 weeks ago...first show last weekend,qualified PUK,Equifest and SWPA champs. She's still a little woolly,but doesn't reseemble a hairy field kept hippo like she did after Xmas. She's in all day and out at night weather permitting and obviously well rugged and exercised daily. Her next show is devon county,then bath and west and royal cornwall.Then a bit of a break till championships as still a novice and don't want to over do it.

I started early mind,some people are only just thinking about it now to be honest

oh yes....forgot to mention that bit hee hee!!

She is home now though,till beginning of May. I'm starting to feel very fit from all the miles of long reining!!lol

I should point out she's only 12.0hh and I'm 5'9...groundwork is the only way for me!!
 
I actually trimmed my youngster's heels today for his first ever show in early April.
We are going to a somewhat ropey local show for a couple of in hand classes. Should be highly entertaining - for everyone else!!
 
I've only seriously started thinking about getting my 3 yr old ready this past week or so. Only showing in-hand so not too much work to do (as in ridden schooling) and she's stayed remarkably clean through winter so just trying to get the poor excuse for an appaloosa mane & tail to thicken up a bit and a few baths to get her shiny and we'll not far off be ready. My friend started getting her hairy coloured cob ready a few weeks ago. Again he's only 3 so shown in hand but after a winter of living out his huge tail and feathers are filthy so lots of baths, brushing and pig oil!! He had qualified for winter champs but they were last weekend and he was still in no state to be seen in public so didn't go. :(

Siennamum is that the one on the 10th? I'm taking G to that!

Our summer coat is coming through nicely now, and a few days before our first show (Easter day) I will tidy up her feathers and trim her jowel/tidy her cheeks. Still got some clip lines but having a few naked days has really started the hair shifting!
 
Oh this post has made me sooooo sad :(

This year was supposed to be our first outing at county level - but I can't get her to the vets to get her height measured in time so its all gone pop :(

(vets is miles away, no box, will cost a fortune to employ someone and with the £70 odd to join chaps, plus £70 for the measure, its just going to be way over budget)...

But bloomin good luck to everyone showing this year :D

Yes, we must meet up, although isn't the ridden 16 & under?
 
Yes Ridden is 16 and under which is a right pain, but am going to run her in-hand for once just to get her out and about before the season really gets going. It could be interesting... I'll be the one desperately trying to keep up with their horse!!!!
 
I started about a month ago, trying to get a yellow tail white, and dirty feather clean.

We've done one show, I've got a showing clinic in a few weeks and then some more shows.

ah, I was rather hoping I might be wrong..
Still I think it'll be quite traumatic enough running round with coco. Lets get organised so we can say hello.
 
Yes! I've not even seen a schedule yet (is it available online?) but know there's M&M and Cob classes, and may be running the foal if her owner wants to take her...
 
I will take my 5 year old out - not expecting to get anywhere as she isn't a great example of a welsh C - but I am aiming to break her as a kid's pony so she will need to see the big, wide world - I also refuse to fatten her up to the ridiculous level some inhand judges like welshies to be......I may take her to a show this month - but she's lived out all winter and looks tatty, so I may leave until the end of april and stick to low level locals! I have given up showing the D as he's not quite "pretty" enough for showing so will concentrate on dressage from now on, I can't wait until next year however, when my little coblet becomes a veteran.....
 
My sec A Gimley who I rode last year is out on loan as Im preggers I will be too heavy lol!
Im 11 weeks, when I was 8 weeks I had put on a stone already!
So this year I have my sec A stallion Bryntaf Norman who is un broken (late foal)
He is now down the road from where I live being (has been for only a week) stabled 18 hours a day, getting pumped full of food and rugged up. He has always lived out, before I got him in Autumn he was running on 800 acres in the welsh mountains, so a proper little welsh man :p
Where I am stabling him, is friends of mine who are top welsh showing people, they are going to run him for me at all the shows :D
His 1st show is about 5-6 weeks away, so lots of strapping and lunging to build up his muscles :p
He'll be doing M+M/Welsh A classes, all top shows hopefully :D :D :D :D

CANT WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
my youngsters are looking good, been out the last 2 weekends and won their classes.
The yearling is still a bit inbetween coats, she should be bald the amount of coat Ive taken out of her lol.
Nothing for a couple of weeks then 2 medal shows :)
Cant wait til the season starts properly, makes the winter slog worthwhile.

We are starting again this week, we are renting a huge school with lots of jumps to have a good serious training session, and first BSJA show of the year is in a week or two.

Had our first show in febuary, not very succesfull, Pippa found it all very exciting, and wouldnt settle (even though I had ridden her to death the day before :) )
So hopefully will be going to a local one in April (to try out our new saddle!! :D ) but if not that, then will go to our local agricultural one at the start of may.
This year has been a bit of a slow start, but i leave school at the end of May, so have got a whole summer of showing (hooray!)
