How many of you turn out in a headcollar?

Which of these songs is your fave from the film soundtrack?

Lilpinkso..

I will give you Ted.. if you come and catch him!

Over a period of 14 weeks he was uncatchable for 13.

I leave a headcoller and rope on him for a reason not out of choice.

its a little habit of him.. its what happens when a horse races for 10 years and goes out every summer from may until october.

Turnout is the only time the horse truly gets his free time,

[/ QUOTE ]

yep.. he's free.. with a coller on so when its time to come in he comes.

[ QUOTE ]
it's pure laziness!!

Who are you to tell someone weather they are being lazy or not...
I would love to have a horse that i shout and he comes! its would be fantastic! really it would! Lazy.. it think not.. Desperate? alittle.

I take it your horse is perfect to catch?

Well Ted (hehe thats his racing name!) is not.. Just ask Supar_Kat.. he's bloody awful to catch!

Too many horses and not enough staff maybe?

doesn't take long to put a halter on

Out of our 10, Holly is the only one who gets turned out in a headcollar and thats only because she can be difficult to catch...

LOL, what a nightmare, i know race horses very well

Who am i to tell someone they're lazy? well it wasn't personal just my opinion, lol.. and yes i have a horse who's perfect to catch
smirk.gif
as are any of the horses i ever handle, i don't see why i should walk across acres to 'catch' them, they can all come when called i say!

i know it's all very well coming from an equine behaviourist, but there are plenty of great whisperers/trainers out there, i personally wouldn't suffer the problems (especially where safety is an issue) when you consider an unsolvable problem would be a rare exception - is is very affordable to have me come and fix a problem and would save a lot of time and maybe even money in the long run!

Can i ask.. has anyone attempted to sort out Teds catching problem?

Ted is his racing name? really? bless

BTW, just so you know.... my first post in this thread wasn't in response to your post above!

Never, often it is just laziness, and I've seen one with a fractured jaw from being turned out in a headcoller and getting caught on a water trough. If this happened it could be hours before you found it and the horse could break it's neck.

Have ticked sometimes, but that would be either in a fieldsafe headcollar, or very occasionally if turned out for an hour or so in a nylon headcollar, but would never leave unsupervised in ordinary headcollar. Would also never use haynet for our pony as she paws at them, no matter how high you tie them, and has got her leg caught more than once. Luckily she just sood quietly on 3 legs!

Can't edit above post, forgot that Meg is turned out in a headcollar too (as well as Holly)... Meg is half wild (seriously), we would never catch her without one!

ROTFLMAO... you REALLY don't know me at all do you? lol
tongue.gif

i am the last person you would worry about my 'attitude' around horses!

but i won't hold it against you - it is hard to gage somebody from typed text! so easy to micsonstrue..

I wish I could find a leather headcollar to fit my girl
frown.gif
Even the Stubben XL version is too small

Any ideas welcome?!

To OP, If she's being mardy and I want to turn her out for an hour or so ,say before the farrier is due , then yes I'll leave her headcollar on

HUm i no it wasn't in reply to my previous post.

No.. His racing name was "Well Ted."
HUm.. i think your quite arrogant from your typing... you wanna watch that...

I tell you what.. you come and sort his catching problem and when its sorted.. i'll pay you
smirk.gif
cause you aint got a cat in hell's chance.

hum.. i suppose i'm quite a traditionalist.. but come on.. surly you just buy horses that makeyou look good like most of the other AB's about there?

You comments just irritated me to be fair.

And you are in no position to say weather head collars are left on for lazyness or not.. I dont think i know anyone who leaves that on cause they caqnt be a**ed to but a collar on.

so as a summary.. i think your arrogant in your view.

Yes identification.

Field full of maybe 45+ TB broodmares, 80% bay. How do you tell the new lad to go out and catch "Fluffy" when she's just another bay mare out with maybe 10 others with similar markings???

Headcollar with engraved nameplate or ID tag sorts out the issue...we also use neckbands instead of collars on some ...usually the not in foal lot.
