How many of you will be doing your horses properly on Xmas Day?

I'm doing Tia as normal on xmas day. Quite a few liveries are paying the two teenagers on the yard to look after theirs and they are getting double what the YO would normally charge for services. YO isnt offering services on any of the bank hols.

Our YO charges double for Christmas Day, Boxing Day, NY day and quite right too IMHO

The sad thing is I am the only one who has shown interest lol

TBH I will probably end up doing them as am heading up the yard early

I'm really looking forward to Christmas Day!
smile.gif

The horses are part of the family and this year is the first year that they'll be at home with us - they will be fully mucked out and turned out and pampered as usual - it will be a family affair
smile.gif
inbetween feeding/turning out and mucking out will be opening presents and bacon sandwiches!
smile.gif

I don't understand why someone wouldn't muck out?

I used to ride out every christmas day but with the weather being as it is I doubt that will happen!

I did wonder about offering my services but of course I dont want to be taking business away from the YO
smile.gif

Absolutely I will - and possibly linger even longer than on a normal weekend/holiday. I relish the extra time wioth them - in fact we have an extra face this year, a schooling livery is in.
smile.gif

We will miss Polly, though

She had her last Christmas in 2008 and I know it's not special for them but it is for us, so yes, I'll be out there and no 'short-changing' by me.

Their Xmas breakfast always has a few slices of apple, carrots and some Polo mints on top of the usual, boring 'laminitis rations' we feed.

George is on part livery, but christmas, boxing and new years day our YM has the day off - and boy does she deserve it!! The YO's who live on site very kindly feed the horses morning and evening for us, but it is up to us liveries to muck out, turnout / bring in, sort out hay etc. So basically George gets pretty much the same routine and I get the shock of my life!!!

George does get a treat on Christmas day - a great big swede for him to crunch on.

My boy will have exactly the same care and attention as every other day, and, if the weather is OK will hopefully take him out for a ride.

Nope, same as every day - muck out in the morning and be turned out by 9.00 with a pile of hay in the field, then home for a quite early christmas dinner/lunch with OH, back to the yard to fetch in a bit earlier than normal (4.00 rather than 6.00) so I've time to do the family visits in the late afternoon. No time to ride unless I still want to be visiting family at 10.00!
tongue.gif

She's not having a present this year (what do you get the horse that has everything?!) but will have a swede on a string overnight and will share a slice or two of horsehage with her TB friend as a treat.

I couldn't relax and have a nice day if I knew she was standing in on a dirty bed.

full muck out as normal, then a hack weather permitting, turn out, home for pressies and full turkey dinner
grin.gif
, then bring in and bed down and tea for the boys before we get tea for ourselves. Only difference to a normal day is they will probably be in a bit earlier than normal.

I will be doing mine as normal this year
smile.gif

Last year I got out of it by sending the horse away on full livery on Christmas eve
smirk.gif

My horse is on part livery anyway, but will be going on full livery for the day if she is still here, parents want to have a drink on xmas day and not have to drive to the yard which is fair enough.
smile.gif
But she's supposed to be going on loan on tuesday so may be one less to muck out for them.

Of course they will done fully and properly.

I agree, they have no idea it is a special or different day, and they do not get presents. That is us putting our feeling onto them again. There is also no reason I cansee to to slack on their care.

They will be done fully, mucked out properly for Pickle who's in and feed and hay Henry in the field, have done a deal with my best friend though so she'll do christmas day afternoon and we'll do hers boxing day afternoon which is nice
smile.gif

Same routine as usual for me except I'm doing 2 other horses in the evening as a favour for 2 liveries who can't get back up. If anything they might come in earlier as I am usually not up til 6 or 7pm when I'm working. I'm having dinner locally so if the horses need to stay in they'll get checked during the day too.

Same as you Rowreach....my horses come 1st too, I don't believe xmas day should be any different. I too do not buy treats etc, but I do get them those horslyx things!!
I sometimes bring my D in a little earlier, but he still gets his turnout and hopefully a ride if the ice melts!! My 2 that live out get hayed twice a day, so their routine changes very little - apart from I get to see them in daylight rather than dark - so that is nice!!
If people don't like the fact that my horses come before christmas - they can sod off as far as I'm concerned!!

My pony will get a proper muck out as normal - i can't be doing with extra mucking out on Boxing day! She'll get hacked out weather depending and she'll get extra carrots in her tea
laugh.gif

QR
It depends how you define 'properly'
tongue.gif
My horses are out 24/7 with a field shelter and round bale of hay, so they have freedom to move about, access to shelter, forage and water at all times
smile.gif

I will feed and poo pick as normal, but probably won't be able to ride as the lanes will be icy. But I don't suppose they'll care too much about that

Ours will be just as pampered on Christmas Day as every other day of the year. They don't get a special dinner or anything either. Bah humbug me!

Mine too will be done properly, as normal at the usual time - 6.30am sharp! I do like to go for an Xmas day hack but don't have anyone to go with this year and it will seem a bit odd going out alone. I do hack out by myself normally but the Xmas hack should be a social affair I think!

They don't get presents or any silly like that but they will get a "normal day". If I don't, there will just be twice as much to do on Boxing Day and that's the day I do more than on Christmas Day (Hunt meet, New Forest Point-to-point etc) . . . .

All will be the same
smile.gif
. Exercise will depend on the state of the school (weather!), but if nothing formal then they'll be out in the field
smile.gif
.

Now Boxing Day is another matter... they'll be on full livery that day
smile.gif
.

Mine will be done properly. It's no different to any other day after all.

I never can drink in the day, as I always have to drive to the yard in the afternoon, I don't mind, It's just how it is.

I tend to get more pressure from people on Bank Holidays, when they want me to go out in daylight on the beer!

Toto gets turned out for us in the morning, and we muck out/bring him in and everything else, and Christmas is exactly the same
smile.gif

We go down in the morning to muck out, fill water buckets and haynet, go see him in the field and give him his presents (normally a LOT of treats, and a likit hehe) and then in the afternoon we bring him in
smile.gif

Xmas day same as every other day as we eat in the evening anyway, so we can pig out, flake out in front of woodburn with the dogs, jeans buttons and zippers open. Utter Bliss.

Mine will be done as normal as far as mucking out is concerned, but as we are heading over to the inlaws for dinner I'm going to ride in the morning and then leave her in. So there is no mad rush to get back, she will get plenty of hay and I shall bed her down in the evening as normal too. (although I'll prob be a bit tipsy)
