How many of you would be able to do this with your horse?

I have just come back from my daily hack where I ride over common land that has a huge flock of sheep on which being sheep are incredibly stupid around horses. I either have them scattering from me in all directions, jumping down practically on top of my horse from the banks or worst of all, throwing themselves at the fencing to get away and then getting caught up!!!

It got me thinking. How many of your horses would tolerate all this and not bat an eyelid like mine? My boy doesn't react to any of this in the slightest but I bet I am lucky.

I live in sheep country so I am used to dumb sheep and so are most horses from this part of the world.
However I have two GSDs and it is immense fun when the blasted things run TOWARDS the dogs, which are straining at the leash and licking their lips.....

MY boy is good with sheep but hates donkeys and the local farmer keeps a lama in with his sheep and my boy just stops and stares at it as if to say what the hell are you

Savannah has lived with a donkey for the last 15 years, both with me and the owner before me, yet she still throws a fit every time we pass a field with donkeys in. She is also funny with little ponies, thinks they're the scariest things alive!

Mine lives with her sheep, and is fine with most 'normal' sheep. The Herdwicks we sometimes pass are a different matter, they appear to be horse eating killer sheep, who have to be watched at all times.

. Pigs are fine, but donkeys are devils in disguise. New markings on the road are dodgy too, although buses, lorries and tractors hold no worries for her at all.

Both of mine would be fine - we don't normally come across sheep but recently did a fun ride on open common land where they were all over the place, ambushing us from the undergrowth , running across the track in front of us etc and the horses were completely unconcerned (must admit I was a little worried as to how they would react

None of mine would be worried about sheep.
Pigs on the other hand...!

ditto mine. one of them was once turned out with a big fat bully of a pig and absolutely HATES them.

I do have one squitty little pony that attacks lambs, for no reason anyone can work out, but otherwise, fine with sheep. Daughter was schooling her pony the other day with two ram lambs following on behind!

Mine doesn't like sheep popping out of bushes, as long as she can see them she's fine.

But in the days when I was allowed to ride and lead and let my grey Shetland pony off the lead, we twice had the whole herd of sheep following us on our ride, as I think they thought my Shettie was lead sheep, and they should follow.

It annoyed the hell out of him!!

My boy doesn't particularly like cows or sheep. So I use him to herd them, which he likes. If they don't move fast enough and I'm feeling mean, I give him a loose rein and he will nastily bite any stragglers.

Our sheep and cows have a horse phobia now.....

Horse I hunt doesn't bat an eye.

One day a load of young cows surrounded him & started licking his bottom (strangly I think he liked it! LOL) Plus hounds walk under him & he doesn't care he loves them!

Mine would be fine but if a Llama came into view the red mist would come down, the jaws would open, there would be bits of Llama everywhere. Even if you say Llama (in a baaing voice) he goes mental. We have a field of them near me, his idea of a perfect ride is when they surround him, all with their ears back. Not actually my idea of a perfect ride.

My mare who died in July, my old boy George and my new boy Lanky, are all happy with sheep. We ride on moorland (Bodmin) regularly, and yards they've all been at have had sheep. They are also happy with cattle, pigs, goats (some at the yard) and donkeys. But ponies with a trap attached? You can get lost!!!

We dont have sheep around but loads of goats and my boy goes to jelly as soon as he hears them - also scared stiff of a shetland thats often tethered near the stables . This horse lets lorries cars and bikes past him but our worst experince was with a lady wheeling a purple shopping trolley !!!!
