Those of you that dont , can i ask why ?

Reason me doing it ... esp if i dont know the horse is for them to trust me . Any horse I have had always seemed to go alot better for me when previous to me doing this . I only ever would have done it once . I have started doing it with the filly and she has responded really well, she knows not to cross the line with me, she has yet to rear up in the field :P :P :P :P

I just think it starts a good bonding process between you and your horse .

LOL I shout mine, she looks up, puts head down and carries on eating. She waits till I'm nearly across the swamp-marsh and close before she walks away. I follow and after a few steps catch her ... I don't think I'm quite getting the hang of 'join up'

I've just never felt the need. And quite frankly is there the time??? I think that if you are someone who is confident around horses then that sends a very definate signal to them. As can a confident manner in riding.

Sort of but only playing. I can get Bodey to follow me anywhere around the school and jump over little cross poles, however I think that’s more to do with the fact he thinks he is going to get treats for it!

Possibly thats what im getting at , if I find a horse that is showing signs of not wanting to work or something that i find is bothering it then I tend to do join up

[/ QUOTE ]
Does it work - do they suddenly go all doe eyed and say OK then???

I just think it's a load of b***cks really.............

I did it with Rum but no other horse. Before join up with him had a horrible stubborn little pony that i no one could do anything with, afterwards he was following me everywhere, hacking and competing fine. It wasnt quite that simple but it helped me alot. My other horses have nver really needed it, i hhavnt had time and also havnt really had a safe place to do it.

Because I think its wrong for various reasons.

can you elaborate ?

Im just interested

Because chasing a horse round and round in circles in order to frighten and exhaust it into submission is not my idea of gaining a horses trust.
