A lot of people are saying that they would never sell their horse and that they have a home for life. So a little Poll.

I am Dolly's 5th maybe 6th Owner and I bought her when she was 12.

Star has had 3 owners before me including his breeder. They sold him as a foal to a woman who left him stood in a field and didnt do anything with him, and he was sold to a riding school aged 18 months. He was totally unsuitable as a lesson pony, he hated it. His schooling was awful when I bought him from there and he was a very unhappy boy. I bought him from them a year and a half ago when he was six and he's a different pony now

Goddy was sold to me by someone who had got him as a debt repayment. So prob was his 3rd, maybe fourth owner, but he hadnt been handled much before the people I brought him from. He was rising 4. I sold my cob to what i hope to be a home for life. I have no idea how many homes he had before me

Phantom, 2 (not including the breeder) Owner before me had him for approx 4 months before I bought (saved) him as a yearling.

Not sure about Herbie, Magic 3 (not including breeder)

I bought B from his breeder at 5 and a half. She sold him because he was too big and quirky. I agree with the too big part, he's grown 2 inches since then too, but he's the most straightforward horse I've ever sat on. Which says more about the insane creatures I've had the misfortune to own/ride than it does about her judgment!

I bought my old boy at rising 10 and have owned him nearly 17 years, and I believe I was his 4th owner .... he was my first horse and I would NEVER NEVER EVER let him go anywhere ..... he is my horse for life

I bought my gelding when he was 9yrs. He had had 2 previous owners to my knowledge before I bought him, not including the breeder. He is now 16yrs old. My mare was 18 months when I bought her and had 1 previous owner not including her breeder. she is now 7yrs old and I will hopefully never have to sell either of them.

As far as im aware four previously to me.
I met a women at a show who was convinced he was her old horse, she bought him as a two year old from gypsies then sold him to a friend who then sold him to the people who i bought him from.
I couldnt sell him now, i dont think anyone would want him apart from anything else!!

Who cares??

it depends though, DD..whether a horse is a "pet" or an animal of "use"...showjumping/XC/Dressage etc..if it doesnt stack up as a "working" animal, it's moved on....if it's a"pet" and a "dog" it stays.....regardless of it's ability or suitability...

Josh and Bea both had 2 owners previously.

Josh was 8 when i bought him and Bea was 5.

I have sold 3 in the past. My 13.2, 14.2 (i still know the owner and he is kept at one of my old yards) and my first horse (who still keeps in touch and recently sent photos of the foal she had just had.
I have never bought anything with the intention to sell it on.

We are Minnie's 4th owners, I would think (breeder, owner when racing, owner before us, and us, as far as I know). We are definitely Madge's 3rd owners (breeder, owner before us, us). Minnie is with us for life, as he is 20 and semi-retired. Madge may not be, depends on what my sister ends up doing after her gap year.

Bramble and Teazle- off the New Forest, to 1 owner (who I'm still friends with) and then to me. Aged 5 and 6, now 16 and 17.

Lottie- bred in Denmark, sold to 1 owner, sold to owner 2 and then to me. Aged 10, now 15.

Flo- bred down South, sold to her current owner at 3 years old. I have had her on permanent loan since she was 17, shes now 24.

I've sold 2 ponies and bred 2 foals.

I'm Allies 1st (I bred her), I'm Storm's 3rd or 4th, Missy's 3rd or 4th (both incl breeders) and I think you'll need to answer Olympic's because I don't have a clue!

I've guesstimated that mine has had at least 8 homes, having gone from show yard to show yard to be shown by different producers/owners. I got him when he was 8, he'll be 15 this year and is in a home for life. I've also sold two.

A bit complicated, but Touchy was bought by my uncle as a 3yr old from her breeder, she came to me for breaking an d selling on!

That was 8 years ago!

Sovereign was given to my by a friend who had got him from the syndicate so he probably had 3 other owners, and Emerald the same.
I will probably keep Touchy and Sov forever but am hoping to sell Emerald, when he has a bit of a competition record.

My current horse had 2 owners prior to me - 1 being the breeder (Malcolm Pyrah). He sold her to a friend of mine who show-jumps and brings on youngsters and I got her from her as a 5 year old. And no I have never sold a horse. (Jenny is my 3rd).

H - changed hands at 6 mths, 2, 4 (sold to my friend as a neglect case), 8 (sold to me) and then has been with me ever since. He's now 22.

Spud changed hands at 6 mths, 6 (was abandoned by previous owner) and then came to us aged 7.

We're Oliver's second home.

Joe changed hands at least 5 times before we got him. We picked him up as a neglect case.

Lulu's history is unknown.

Tobe was bred by a man who beat him, was rescued by EMW and he then came to us.

I've only ever sold one horse.
