how many plaits?

As titled really. Taking my horse to his 1st show on sunday and im only doing the best turned out class but didnt know how many plaits i should do if there is a rule as to how many you are meant to have. thanks

You need to try how many are suitable on your horse, if it has a thick main you'll have to do more or they'll be like tennis balls !

Some people say if your horse has a long neck do the least number of plaits, like say 9

if it has a stubby neck do more, supposed to make the neck look longer

I would also say to sew them rather than bands, when you sew them you can really tuck them under, with bands somethimes I think they look a mess and they stick out

i usually do about 13 in total if not more as taz has a stupidly short neck and i try to make it look as long as possible

i agree that if you can you should sew them as it looks much smarter, but you shouldnt get penalised for plaiting with bands

Lol my youngster had soooo much mane last year I ended up with about 26! Otherwise they would have looked like footballs!
Think for best turned out you would probably be penalised a bit for plaiting bands tho so if you can possibly sew I would.

thanks il try get some thread! i practised yesterday and ended up with 19 and 1 on forelock! his mane is almost non existant in the middle where his rug has rubbed, so made it really difficult

If you can, then take some tail hair and use it to make a plait extension. You can plait this into the existing mane as if it were the mane hair and and sew in the usual way.
On occasions I have made whole plaits from tail hair to sew into the blank spaces in a severly rubbed mane.

what a fantastic idea, i was just gonna ask that, as the appy im going to show has a really short bit in the middle which im dreading pleating!

Yeah! someone else suggested that to me! but i have no idea how to get it stay :-S does it just plait in then? i would have thought it wouldnt have stayed in very well thats all.
