From the other side of the fence, we're trying to buy and it seems that nothing is selling. Any ponies I call about are still for sale, no matter how long they've been advertised for. That said, 14.2hh ponies seem more expensive than horses, so perhaps the bubble has finally burst?
Im selling my cob x yearling colt, he's been advertised for 2 weeks and Ive got someone coming to see him on Saturday!
Its sods law when you really want to sell something you can't and when you really don't want them to go you get loads of interest!
Im asking £900ono to see what happens!
No joy although we've not been advertising seriously - but on and off for the past 6 months. It's a pony (11.2hh) grey - 10 year old - welsh type - an out and out jumping pony - clears 3'9 with a 5' spread. Have reduced him now from £2,500 to offers around £1,250 as getting desperate now. Had to reduce the price as he's been out of work since just before Christmas. Had a few people out, but to be honest - we didn't like them and turned them away. Although we're desperate - we still want a great home for him. He doesn't cost anything to keep, so until we find the right buyer, he's staying here. Two of the three foals we've bred this year so far though, have all got potential buyers without even advertising yet.
I don't start to advertise my "selling" horses until May or June. I like to get them out to a couple of shows and see how they do before I advertise. This seems to be the most favourable time where I live as my guys normally sell within just a few days of the adverts going out.
Any that I sell at other times of the year are not advertised, but rather sold by word of mouth or bought by hay customers/visitors to the farm who fall in love with them
I'm selling my 3year old coloured 15.2hh and growing fast for £2995 she will make a really nice show horse working hunter type has been on horse deals and horse mart for about 3 weeks and is in this months magazine and not 1 call just 1 text asking if i would let her got to someone with 16 years experiance and referances for 3 installments has anyone else had that sort of offer I think its mad I want to sell her not give her away and whats the chances of getting the money think not
he was advertised Wednesday last week, and we have had loads of calls, even tho he has had a back operation which we wrote about on the advert, and we still had the calls! He has a lot of viewings booked for next week.
He is a 9 year old 16.1 hands chestnut TB gelding, won his first elementary dressage, won most of his Novice tests,qualified/placed Nixon dressage champs, qual South East showjumping champs, done Intro level eventing, top show prospect, good hack, easy to do, superb temperment, I've probably priced him a bit steep at £5k but have put offers considered, but we've had the interest in him!
I delivered my pony to his new owners yesterday. I had him advertised for a week and they were the first people to come and see him so i was lucky i guess. Got my new mare coming today and was very lucky to get her at a bargain price!
I'll be selling my much loved foal at weaning in July due to my health problems - I'm very sad that she has to go but as she'll make 14.1 and not exceed 14.2 at maturity I'm hoping there will be some interest as I cannot now keep her as I intended. Anyone want a sports pony bay filly foal ?
Buyers are out there though, but people are either asking way to much for nondescript average horses, or lie through their teeth.
One of my friends has been looking for months, has called up about loads and seen many, often hundreds of miles away.
She's getting fed up now and is considering giving up horses altogether.
All she wants is a safe overgrown pony that will hack without killing her and do Prelim and Novice dressage properly.
The average price seems to be £7k and most of these ponies haven't even competed, they have 'potential' so say their 'rose-tinted glasses' owners. And these ponies are often over 12yrs old!!
Like madhossy says, they are way overpriced at the moment!
I only wanted a safe hack, and to do a bit of schooling, wasn't bothered about gender or age, some were £3/£4k.
Luckily I waited a few months, went back to one which had been advertised earlier and not sold. Got him for a bargain £1500, and he's perfect for me.
I'll be selling soon, probably in a couple of months (see sig!) after the pony has got out competing. Price tag depends on how well it does competing but it's coming along very well just now so Id say £2500 or £3000 if it wins a few classes!
Friends horse (below in sig) has only been for sale since last week, she's absolutely stunning, got a good showing record and has done other stuff as well. She's sensibly priced, but only on horsemart at the moment.... not had one phone call which really surprises me... But I suppose it hasn't been long yet.
I have had my daughters outgrown 13.2hh pony for sale for ages hardly any calls, couple of viewings, pony never put foot wrong, but no sale have reduced price to £2500 which I dont think is overpriced (views please!) We've had him 3 years he has BSJA winnings BN double clears is mega X-c always clear he's been placed everywhere in our area hunter trialing individual and pairs, good box, shoe, traffic, clip and catch. Done PC Camp 3 times and placed unafiliated dressage. He's 10. Lovely person with loads of character ideal 2nd/3rd pony as quite forward going (safe) x-c. So dont know why I cant sell him. Apparently 13.2 is not a popular size?
