The title says it all really. I am curious how many days off other people's horses get. Also, why have you chosen your particular riding routine? Mine is ridden five to six days a week (occasionally twice in one day). She is both hacked and schooled. I like her to have at least one day a week on which she isn't worked.

At the moment, loads - I am pregnant and too tired to ride every day! Hopefully my new sharer will help me out there.

Ideally a mix of long and short hacking, school once a week, jump once a week and rest one day a week.

Thursdays and Sundays (and public holidays); they are the permitted shooting days here in Portugal and when I bring my boys home - currently in livery but stable building starts on Monday (yay!) - we will only be hacking out and I don't fancy doing that while guns are going off!

Give my 16yr old WB day off after every 5 or 6 days work most often a Monday but vary it due to work and weather. I school 2 - 3 times a week hack about 3 times a week. But also due to work, weather etc. will have a few days off here and there e.g. this week I was away for 3 days for work. He only has short breaks because during long breaks muscle tone is lost and is not good for horses with a history of SI weakness. I find he is better for having a 2-3 days off here and there.

My days off are judged by the weather and how many shoes she loses. So she might do two weeks work without a day off if the weather is good and she keeps shoes on, but she lost a shoe on Sunday and farrier no coming til tomorrow, and then I'm away til next Friday, so she's going to end up with a couple of weeks off in total - I'm sure she'll be devastated -NOT!!

I don't give my horse a fixed day off as such, but at least once a week we'll just go on a short hack, mostly walking and stretching, or spend 20 mins stretching in the school. He gets silly if he doesn't do enough work. Having said that, if he works hard eg a competition, he gets a day off after.

I dont seem to have much time currently :(
I cant ride Tuesdays or Thursdays. And recently Ive had stuff on other days too. And with the wind and the rain and the yuk Ive not ridden much. Fingers crossed things will quieten down a bit soon :)

My girl gets worked 6 days a week with a variety of schooling, short hacks, long hacks, lunging etc she gets most saturdays off as i do a friends horse on a tuesday so she does mine on a sat so i get a day off from the yard!!

Sometimes she will get the odd extra day off due to work or other commitments.....

Jake currently gets::

Monday : Hack
Tuesday : Flatwork Lesson
Wednesday : Jumping Lesson
Thursday : Rest day
Friday : Hack or school - depends on the mood/weather!
Saturday : Self Schooling
Sunday : Hack

If we've been at a show on the sunday he usually gets a monday off.

Things change about abit tho, weather and work. We're lucky to have an indoor school so if weather is really rubbish he can still get exercise. Was well worth it during the shocking snow we got last winter :S

My smalll 'un gets atleast 2 days off a week, but getting her fit so even tho she gets days off, she will sometimes go on the horse walker for 15 mins before she gets her tea.

My big 'un gets atleast 2 days off, whether it be teaching to tricks to hacking, schooling, lunging etc

In summer - generally will get about 2-3 days off depending on work schedule (mine not his!)

In winter he will get 4-5 days off as generally cannot ride in the week

Atm (and since April) he gets everyday off until his leg is fixed!
