i am Thinking about getting a lightweight/middleweight rug for autumn...haven't usually bothered in the past, I have managed with just a new zealand with extra rugs when its colder! How many rugs do you all own and what weights are they? Do you think its necessary to get light/medium and heavy??

I have one light rain sheet, 1 medium weight with neck cover ( he gets a full clip in winter) 1 medium without neck cover. I tend to layer depending on how cold it is, sometimes putting a fleece underneath any of them! Unless you've got a horse that looses a lot of weight in winter I don't think it neccessary to buy a heavy one.

10!
And I only have one horse!
I'm really not sure how I ended up with so many and barely use some of them.
I have: 3 turnouts (light, medium and heavyweight)
2 polywarms (a medium and a heavyweight)
2 fleeces, one with a neck (which is a brill rug by the way!)
A summersheet (this was a present so I can be let off!)
A sweat rug (the net kind, I rescued this from being thrown out by the YM so was also a freebie!)
A rainsheet, which I barely use.

Oh rugs my favorite.I have in excess of thirty rugs for one horse.I have a new horsey aswell and have just got two more rugs for her she came with three rugs aswell.

id hate too think!

for 1 horse i have
1 light weight turnout
1 200g standard TO
1 200g Full neck TO
1 half neck 300g TO
1 standard 300g TO
1 half neck 400g TO
1 200g stable rug
1 300 full neck stable rug
1 lined fleece
1 fleece/cooler
1 summer sheet

ermm.... 11 and thats with me giving the ones that didnt fit to my friend

I have 2 heavyweight stable rugs, 2 medium weight stable rugs, 1 lightweight stable rug. 2 heavyweight turn out rugs, 2 medium weight turnout rugs, 3 lightweight turnout rugs and ???? no of fleeces/coolers. I do own a very thin skinned TB, who feels the cold very easily. So I think this no of rugs is justified

all mine have a summer sheet, light stable rug, medium stable rug, and really thick stable rug, under rug, lightweight turnout, medium turnouts, and heavyweight turnouts with necks, and a couple of cooler/travel rugs each too.

Probably dont need quite so many but they are very spoilt!!

My boy, M has..

2 x summersheets
2 x fleeces
2 x LW turnout
1 x MW T/O
1 x HW T/O
1 x LW stable
1 x MW stable
2 x HW stable (don't like greasy neck covers!)
1 x comfort zone
1 x thermatex

Whoooops!! And I'm sure there's prob more!

I think that you can never have too many rugs
smirk.gif
.

Chex has 19 rugs (stable and turnout), which i don't think is too many
blush.gif
(although he is a cob!). If we're including coolers and sheets then he has over 30. BUT they're all various weights and neck lengths, and most are used regularly in the winter

. I only buy rugs in sales too, saves some money

.

Ok I've only had George a little while and haven't had to go through winter yet, but he has:
1 waffle type light stable rug
1 fleece/net cooler
1 medium weight turnout rug
1 light 120g turnout rug

Hopefully George will only have a minimal clip in the winter and I can always layer if necessary.

i have different amounts for both my horses

the very clean mare (coloured)

2 x medium turnouts with a neck
1 x light turnout without neck
1 x fly rug with neck, ears and masks (makes her look like a bug :P)
1 x medium under rug with neck
1 x medium stable without neck
1 x cooler
1 x show waffle

the messy gelding (mums and sisters horse)
1 x light weight turnout no neck
2 x medium turnout with out a neck
1 x heavy weight neckless again
2 x medium stable
2 x coolers
1 x fly sheet with necks, ears and mask
grin.gif

and i think thats about it
confused.gif
so not really many

I am also a rug addict, my horse is turned away until next year and won't be wearing any rugs at all any more. She still has:
2x fleece coolers
1x Thermatex
1x cooler sheet
2x lightweight turnouts
1x lightweight turnout neck cover
1x light/mediumweight (40g) turnout with neck cover
2x mediumweight (200g) turnouts
1x heavyweight (370g) turnout with neck cover
1x lightweight (100g) stable
1x light/mediumweight (200g) stable
1x medium/heavyweight (300g) stable
1x heavyweight (360g) stable
plus the too-small waffle cooler that came with her. So 16 for one horse who doesn't wear any!
New horsey will be having more than this I expect, I just can't stop myself

Although in my defence, if new horsey ends up being 6'6" as well, he/she shall be having Maiden's rugs bar a fleece rug and a lightweight turnout.

Castle has -
1 Decathlon lightweight stable rug
1 Horseware Ireland mediumweight stable rug
1 Decathlon lightweight turnout
1 Horseware Ireland mediumweight turnout
1 Rochler Sport (German brand) fleece exercise sheet
1 Horseware Ireland summer sheet
1 Cuddly Ponies fleece cooler

Ali has -
1 Horseware Ireland lightweight turnout rug
1 Loveson mediumweight turnout rug
1 Horseware Ireland lightweight stable rug
1 Horseware Ireland heavyweight stable rug
1 Bucas Shamrock Power travel rug
1 Masta Fleece Cooler
1 Horseware Ireland Rambo Supreme Fleece

So I have 14 rugs at the moment, and I'm buying more soon.

14 and one horse. But 2 done fit her and have been cleaned as will sell them as we get nearer winter. And she needs a new fly rug as a bit trashed. Well a lot trashed.

Probably more than most people on here
blush.gif
but they are all needed honest. I have 7 turnout rugs for a start, at least 4 summer sheets, 2 fleece rugs, a thermotex, a woolen rug, about 5 stable rugs and I'm sure there are more I've forgotten
blush.gif
God how did I get that many!?

My names Jo C and I'm a rug addict!

Oh and I forgot the fly sheet

In answer to the original post, I think medium weights are very handy. You can use them on those slightly colder nights and also they are brilliant for layering in the winter.
We don't turnout over the winter so I actually get more use out of medium weight turnouts than I do heavy weights.
On the subject of how many rugs you have..... hmmm, scary subject. I got to 30, and they are the ones I can remember... I also have 'spares'.... plus my assortment of exercise rugs....
And what's worse is that i was going to buy some new heavyweights this winter.... no wonder i'm running out of room!
grin.gif

Hmm, never counted tbh!!
1 new LW TO
1 ripped LW TO
2 fleeces
3 stable rugs of different weights
1 HW TO with no neck cover
1 ripped HW with detachable neck cover
1 new HW TO with neck cover
And about to buy a MW too
wink.gif

So about 10
