I have 5 horses but each of them have the following........
indoor:-
3 fleeces ( so when one gets washed they have one on and on is a show fleece)
2 lit weight quilt ( one for under outdoor rugs if needed)
1 medium weight quilt
1 heavy weight quilt
1 cozy
Outdoor
1 rain sheet
1 medium lite
1medium
1heavy
Exercise:-
1 yellow hi viz wrap around (but I wrap it round saddle)
1 thick fleece for when it's really cold
When it gets down to bad temps they have a max of three rugs on.....I.e indoor fleece, long necked heavy, standard necked medium but that's only when it reaches -13! Other than that I mix and match depending on weather.
My name's Abbijay and I'm a rug-a-holic
The first winter I had BP we had 3 rugs; turnout, stable and fleece but now we have:
HW turnout (only have it cos we won it)
2x MW turnout (need to get rid of one but can't decide which fits better)
1x no-fill turnout
Neck cover - suits all rugs
LW stable rug
MW stable rug
full neck under rug
3x fleeces
waffle
ninja suit (head to tail lycra)
fluoro excercise sheet
I've just sold 3 rugs as well... It looks like I still need to sell a MW turnout and 1 fleece - anyone want any 7'3" rugs?
I am needing to actually go rug shopping before winter sets in
at present he has:
x1 M/W T/O
X2 H/W T/O both no necks
X1 M/W Stable rug
X1 L/W T/O
X1 Fly rug
This is it so you can see I need to go get him some more don't want him getting coldies.
I had to stick his L/W T/O on last night as he was chilly and then could wear it being out today in the rain
I currently have 2 TBs and they each have a heavy stable rug for winter, a daysheet for less severe cold, a sweatsheet for after work and a quarter-sheet for working winter mornings. I live in Pretoria and the weather here is quite warm.
FWIW - I made the sweatsheets and quartersheets myself because no-one was selling the colours I liked
The easy answer is far too many!! - Mine is a Haffy and Im going for rugless this year as much as I can only if its freezing will I rug him up
He has 3 l/w turnouts , 1 fly rug, 2 fleeces and 1 m/w turnout nd 1 mw stble rug.
My pony has 3..... Feel bad! Maybe i should buy him more.
But then again his 3 rugs kindof cover every possibility:
1 h/w with neck
1 l/w without neck
And 1 medium stable that can be used under others if needed acording to weather.
oh and he lives out (with shelter) so no changing around either.
I have 2 no fill turnouts, 1 mw turnout, a waffle rug and a mw stable rug. I'm going to get another mw turnout but can't decide between a premier equine or another amigo.
Oh dear... Stocky Coblet currently has his name on:
3 fly rugs (one doesn't fit all that good so only use at shows ect to cover over him)
2 no fill turn outs without necks
1 no fill turn out with neck
1 medium weight with detachable LW neck
1 heavy with neck
1 heavy without neck
1 cuddly ponies fleece
1 waffle cooler
1 string cooler thing (the type with holes the size of a pea on... Works wonders that rug...)
1 cotton sheet
Yes... One very spoilt cob, however I have never spent over £40 on a rug!
Thought I was doing well after 5 months so far we have
X1 lightweight turnout
X1 lightweight turnout with neck
X1 medium weight (just ordered the neck)
X2 fleeces
X1 200g stable
X1 300g stable with neck
X1 exercise sheet
Seem to be collecting saddle cloth quickly too!
My last pony had WAY too many rugs ! I was a bit of a rugaholic with her .
10 turnouts in different weights from no fill to 350g, standard, half neck and full neck.
8 stable rugs, from lightweight to medium weight.
6 fleeces, some for under rugs, some for bath time and one posh one for shows.
A Masta Thermocell cooler.
A thermatex.
A cotton sheet.
A full face lycra hood
So, that's a total of 27 (I'm sure I've missed some) rugs, plus the lycra hood for ONE PONY . All 5'3" - 5'6".
I had a clearout and exchanged most of the rugs for money off my livery.
My new pony has what's left.
1 Amigo Lite , 1 MW Masta and 1 HW Fal turnout. The Masta is too big around her shoulders though so it needs to go.
I'm getting a MW turnout from my friend next week as it doesn't fit any of hers.
A MW Amigo Insulator and a MW Weatherbeeta stable rug.
The Masta Thermocell cooler.
the Thermatex.
2 fleeces.
A cotton sheet.
The lycra hood.
She has 10 rugs, all 5'3" - 5'6".
I also have 2 MW Masta stable rugs, 1 x 5'9" and 1 x 6'. 1 x 6' MW full neck turnout, (had 2 but gave one away). 1 x 6' full neck fleece and 1 x 6' standard (show) fleece which I had bought for my now sold Welsh D.
I don't know if any of the 5'9" or 6' rugs will fit Callie as she grows and matures, but I'm feeling a bit guilty that all she has are "hand me downs", I've never actually bought her a new rug.
Even though Callie lives out, I like to keep a variety of rugs just incase she needs them for any reason. Last winter for example, we had icy winds and driving rain for most of the winter. She wore the HW Fal then. The fleeces and coolers are mostly for bath times, like when she has a bath next week before her show. She'll need a stable rug on afterwards if I keep her in overnight after her bath, and turnouts after the show. I wouldn't normally rug her yet, but she will need it after having a bath as our weather here is awful right now.
the turnout is used on its own in summer and winter with either the stable or thermatex under in winter, she lives out and this combination has worked really well.
she is really deprived though, they are all hand me downs lol
My 22 year old has, a Rambo net cooler, a Fal cotton sheet, a Weaherbeeta fleece, a thermatex, 2 LW turnouts 1 shires, 1 Weatherbeeta), a 200g Rambo turnout, a 300g Waetherbeeta turnout and a 400g Fal turnout.
That's 9 (eek) I've sold three this year as well.
The two boys who wear the same size rugs have the following between them.
1 Coolmasta, 1 Weatherbeeta cooler, 2 Weatherbeeta fleeces, 1 Weatherbeeta rain sheet, 1 Fal 40g turnout, 1 premier equine 40g turnout, 1 Fal MW turnout, 1 Weatherbeeta MW turnout, a coolex rug, a thermatex, a HW Weatherbeeta stable rug, a HW Weatherbeeta turnout and a HW Weatherbeeta combo turnout.
That's 14 and I've sold four of there's recently.
They've only worn 10 of the 24 rugs they own in the past 18 months
