How many rugs is your horse wearing?

There both in one rug, one had a full clip before Christmas, other a trace the other week, both in heavy weights (don't ask what weight, all I know if there thick enough and keep them warm and dry) with a full neck, both up to weight and won't be having anything else under their rug other than a cooler if they have been worked.
 
My boy is stabled, clipped out (last clip mid December) wearing a Weatherbeta heavyweight outdoor rug with a heavyweight neck cover and nothing else. I check him in the morning and he is nice and cosy, if he was cold I would put an extra one on, admittedly he is not a thin skinned TB but a part bred native

My mare is a connie cross, clip is baysically grown out.. but she has joint problems in her spine so she is currently wearing a 200g duvet and a 360g with neck at night... its been down to -5 last night but she was just right.. However i know ponies who are naked, in just a medium weight.. or in about 5rugs!. :)
 
Mines in a lightweight underrug with neck, a meduim weight with neck & a fleece over the top, more to save the thick rug needed a wash as she lies down alot!
 
Don't agree with anything more than 2 rugs. 3+ rugs is just stupid IMO. There's no way that it can be at all comfortable for the horse.


My poor doer wimpy TB is in 1 rug. A 450g HW. He has been in that all through the cold spell, and was in that in the -20 and lower temps we had all last year without any problems.
 
The youngster just wears a LW to keep the wet off. Doesn't need anything more, I really hate over-rugging horses. Even the clipped cushings only wears a MW and she's out 24/7 (although both have access to stables if they want, but they never go in except to eat their hay). I was putting a fleece underneath as it's been below zero here for a while, but she just got too hot. There are hairy cobs around here in HW turnouts, they must be so uncomfortable, especially in the middle of the day when the sun is out and there's no-one around to take the rugs off. Ridiculous.
 
Lass is in over night at the moment she has MW and HW stable on she is fully clipped and during the day she has MW stable, fleece and MW turnout
 
Fully clipped, wearing 400g combo day and night, but neck turned back at night as our indoor stables are quite warm and she is tucked in the corner with no drafts, this is the most she ever wears. I don't layer as I find the underneath rug slips back and pulls on her chest, especially if it is a fleece.
 
My TB x Hanoverian is just wearing his "medium" weight 220g.. although it feels thicker than his heavyweight ..! With a bossi bib anti-rub vest. But really I do wonder if he'd prefer nothing on at all!
 
My old boy (he's 26 yrs and feels the cold!) is in a MW stable rug and HW turnout. He did have his turnout off last night as it was a bit warmer.

My pony is naked. Her coat is about 2.5inches thick (minimum!) shes like a little polar bear!
 
1 less than when I turned him out this morning - not sure how he does it when he gets just one clip undone or broken, but he seems to be perfecting the art & is in grave danger of being chucked out naked even though he is fully clipped!
 
I'm not a fan of putting loads of rugs on at the same time. Mine have either blanket or chaser clips. They are in Rambo Duos or PE Trios with 200g neck covers. At the moment they have 300g liners in so with outer they have a total of 400g.

They have plenty of hay to eat to keep them warm. Until this really old snap some had 100g and some had 200g liners.
 
Woah.. I have a highland and if it wasn't for keeping that fuzz down he'd be naked! CRUELTY CALL THE SSPCA.. *sigh*

He is out in a 200g Derbyhouse Mediumweight (no neck) :D
Inside he either gets his 110g Masta checked rug or his brick pattern fleece rug (with no neck)
When the temp get above freezing he shall be back out in his lightweight :D:D
 
My TB is wearing a JHL HW turnout during the day and in the stable wearing a Horseware necked duvet and hw weatherbeeta stable rug. It has been really cold here so I watch him carefully but he is actually quite a hot horse and generally doesn't need any more rugs. It's a nightmare though deciding what to put on and what to leave off!!
 
Unclipped Welsh Cob in 200g. I've had to put a fleece on underneath tonight because he wasn't warm enough at 5pm. Previous years he's been out 24/7 with an irish clip and just a 200g but he seems to be feeling the cold this year.

Will be back in his fleece and l/w once it gets above 0.
 
Tb with a chaser clip, he's has his Weatherbeeta Taka which I think is 360 grams and a Belmont stable rug at night which is about the same.
YM did try a fleece under his turnout one day but when I went to catch him in he was too hot so we're back to single rugs.
In the day when I brought him in and before I rode, he was naked.
He really is a very hot horse.
