How many rugs?

[ QUOTE ]
Awww I nearly started a thread like this just to p*ss everyone off, why do people feel the need to get SO puritanical about what rugs someone's horse is wearing

You dont know the horse, you dont know the weather, you dont know the shelter available/type of stable etc etc etc...

My TB is a VERY poor doer and drops weight really easily, he is also fully clipped, so he has ad lib hay at night and tonight he is wearing a HW Amigo stable rug, a 200g under rug with neck cover and a HW Rhino stable rug with neck cover...

Why?

Because tonight is it scheduled to be much colder than last night, and when I went to see him last night at 9pm he was cold wearing the Amigo rug with the HW Rhino over it. How do I know this? Because I touched him and felt his body temperature/the temperature of his ears/how tucked up he was etc...

So I changed him last night to the under rug with neck cover plus the Rhino HW and he was fine, tonight is colder so he has another one on

Previously he has been out during the day in just a HW Rhino turnout with neck cover, but today I put the HW Amigo rug underneath too as the wind chill is just something else around us

Oh and yes he can move perfectly well, I changed his rugs before I fed him and mucked out tonight, so could see him walking around very happily

Unclipped newforest x. out in heavy weight fal pro just because it's snowing.

stabled with fleece, light weight stable and lightweight T/O as stable gets rained in.

I think he's nice and snug and can still move

Think I'm clipping mine today, so after that he will have a fleece and a rhino full neck turnout in the day, and a fleece and a fullneck underrug and stable rug in the evening. I am hoping to get him out to an indoor school so we can do some work, and would rather clip him so he doesn't sweat up and get a chill

My 2 TB's have a household duvet, with a lightweight and a middleweight quilt over the top, I can't afford fancy different rugs so its a case of sleep in your day clothes if its very cold. The boys seem plenty warm enough. My fat old cob has a duvet and a medium weight rug. None are clipped (recently).
