How Many Rugs??

Are they clipped or un clipped?? my ISH is completely clipped out ears, legs and all and is wearing 2 heavy weight stable
rugs with necks as he is a right wuss.

Mine are both fully clipped and live in with about 5 hours turn out in the mornings.

They are wearing a LW and a MW stable rug and a HW turnout.

foal/yearling is wearing a fleece and a heavy weight n/z
exmoor clipped fleece, thick stable rug and a medium n/z
mare unclipped medium stable rug and a heavy n/z
all out 24/7

She feels the cold really bad and is 23, but here goes.....
l/w (v thin) stable rud
fleece over that
m/w / l/w stable rug nice and deep in the body, with her fleece hood and h/w stable rug with neck.

But like I say she does feel the cold badly alawise she wouldnt be wearing hardly any of these, the barn she is in too is very cold in this weather and she gets the weather coming in at her as her stable faces out and is 1st in row....snow had been up to her stable door....quite a distance to enterance.

I take her fleece hood off her during the day and swap a top layer or two for something else if she's warm, or if she's just right i leave her as she is...rather she was nice and snuggly.

I am probably going to get ribbed for the amount she has on and is unclipped....but she does feel the weather....

Its not fun piling on all the rugs...

tb with a high chaser clip.
1 x 100g stable rug
1 x 200g stable rug (both shires)
1 x 400g turnout combo
the turnout rug is very light to lift and hold, i dont like having lots of heavy rugs that get even heavier with rain as i think the horse is carrying to much weight and they start getting muslce loss in places from carrying to much weight (seen it before) the newer turnouts are starting to get lighter to lift and carry. i have a rhinegold 350g turnout that is as light as a feather

both mine are unclipped natives that sort of live out 24/7 (they have full access to woodchip yard & stable.

Hami is in a medium turnout due to his age as now he has got to 28yo the cold is starting to get to him (but never used to have a rug)

SWA untill today a medium turnout but tonight he has a M/W stable with one of the kids fleece blankets over & a borrowed L/W turnout over the top (am hoping he is soon toasty warm again)

Clipped and wearing two rugs at mo, both day and night, in a morning they only feel slightly warmish so wishing I had better quality ones for them.

Will be gettinglovely new rugs for next winter!

my fully clipped IDX is is a heavyweight turnout (rambo supreme so super super warm) and in the stable he has a fleece and two medium weights, only one with a neck.

a cotton sheet and 200g for turnout
a 200g quilt and cotton sheet
OH showjumpers are in a h/w quilt and h/w turnout rug to go out
and at night they have 2 h/w quilts on
the showjumpers in our barn have 4 quilts on and a sheet!!

girly fully clipped TB is wearing - 400g hw stable, newmarket cooler (WB) and a 360g hw turnout. at night and during the day she is wearing a mw turnout with hw turnout on top.

boy was fully clipped but looking rather hairy again is wearing underug with newmarket and hw stable at night and underrug and heavyweight turnout during the day

mines unclipped but doesnt have a thick coat and feels the cold but during the day she has mainly been wearing a m/w but occasionally she has had her 360g hw on when its been really cold and at night if its below -3 she has been having a l/w combo and a m/w on top otherwise (most the time) just a m/w. Last year she would wear h/w plus l/w combo all the time and h/w turnout when temp lower than freezing but she had her neck and belly clipped then plus shes a lot lot lot fatter this year and I keep debating on whether to take a layer off but when it gets to -10 or even lower you feel a bit mean!

My connemara was clipped early nov so now quite hairy is wearing 1hw and 1mw turnout with one neck and same at night (in stable rugs) with a fleece

I dont see why you need to layer nowadays with the thick rugs you can get... Mine are all are wearing a single HW rug and they live out 24/7. Was -18 in my area today, but they're not bothered!
