Hi
I have had my horse for 5 months now and when I got her I bought a GP saddle as I had planned to do a bit of everything. Over the past few months we have been concentrating on her schooling and dressage and she has progressed loads. I have been offered the chance to buy a fab dressage saddle which I would love....but I don't want to give up my GP as I love jumping her too.....

Sooo, how many saddles does everyone have for their horse? Is 2 excessive??

Not at all - I have my GP for jumping/hacking and my dressage for flatwork - as do a few girls on my yard. I was so glad I bought my dressage as its made a massive different to my position and balance so was worth the money

Thanks Hevs. This is what I hope the dressage saddle will do for my riding, was just worried it was excessive to have 2. I'm still in the 'need to buy everything I see that my horse doesn't have' for my new horse mode! Doing sense checks on my purchase lusts :D

The rather pricey, comfortable treeless BF came with - and the GP/WHP I brought as soon as the saddler could get out to me when I got BF.

Dont think I've used the treeless since as its not nice (for me) to jump in, tho its jolly comfy for steady hacking :)

A GP for hacking and jumping and a stressage saddle...... However, I am looking into getting a close contact jumping saddle as well:o

He has a gp and a dressage but not using dressage currently as I need to get saddler out to alter it. Also considering getting a synthetic jump for xc as the gp doesnt help when I'm riding that short and if its snythetic I can take it to the beach and stuff and not have to worry....

I have 2,hate flat work in my jumping saddle so have a dressage. Hate jumping & hacking in dressage saddles so use jump saddle for both of those activities.

This is great news! I can feel guilt free for going for the dressage saddle! In fact i think im even convinced its almost essential ;) Very excited!! :D

3 for the one horse :S

but in my defence i only use two!

i bought a show/wh saddle last year for trolling about in as pony was just a baby - as thought it would be good for everything - comfy to hack in, okay to jump in, straight enough to show in nice for dressage - it has turned out to be useless for dressage no support whatsoever anywhere, can get my legs up enough to jump in comfortably so have to jump quite long which has deffinatly helped me improve but not great for position it is however good to show in and comfy to hack in!

bought a dressage saddle which i love so much its unreal! has helped us both so much - shes free'er in the shoulder and it supports by back so much more i can sit into it and not on it and it somewhat keeps my legs under control!! i still jump in the show saddle but as soon as i've paid off the dressage saddle from my parents i will be taking out another loan from the 'rents to get a lovely jumping saddle and px the show saddle!

the third was bought on a whim to jump in but it doesnt fit me :S so has only been used once! m/w 17.5inch tekna jump for sale ;)

It's definitely essential to have both a dressage and jumping/GP saddle. If you've been offered a dressage saddle, I'd definitely take it - they are amazing to ride in.

I have one gp saddle for my horse, that was fitted for him, but i do have a dressage saddle, that, if it fits him, will go on him at some stage. though thats for me, i do think, you only need one saddle once it fits correctly.
