roughly

im currently £4 per small hay bale but have the chance of round haylage for £25 that is really lovely quality and not too rich. Im trying to work out how it compares... thanks

What is the weight of your small bales compared to the round?

My small bales are 55-60lbs, rounds average 600lbs so about 10.

I would give it a go and see how usage compares. Smalls are more convenient to store and handle unless you are planning on ad-lib in a field.

:)

thanks,i dont know how much they weigh tbh. The thing is the haylage is really lovely stuff and id prefer small bales but it comes in rounds. The farmer will drop off a bale at time which i can keep inside where my square bales are so not too much hassle. haylage is usually more expensive than hay as well isnt it?

depends on the baler really, fixed centre balers will be heavier bales around the 10-12 small bales but older balers might only give you 8 small. also depends on the settings so no hard and fast rule without weighing them.
