Depends on size of round bale and how tight it has been packed. If it is one of the small round bales normally 6 to 8

I'd guess more than that - my mare will eat a whole small bale a night but a round bale lasts her 2-3 weeks (fed ad lib.)

So I'd guess 15-20 round bales, possibly more.

I believe someone on here (with farming connections) put a load of round bales through a baler to make small ones and there are 12 small bales to a round bale.

It is deff around 10 bales. If you go for the large hesston bales, not really practical unless you have a forklift, you will get around fifty equivelent

Ziggy - why do you give her a whole bale at night? I only give 2-3 slices. Am I being mean??

She eats a lot! She's a TBx and a poor doer, so I feed hay ad-lib (as much as she can eat). In my view, its better to stuff her full of hay, which is fibre and natural for a horse to eat, than limit her hay and have to use lots of expensive hard feed instead.

IME most horses don't eat anywhere near a whole bale a night, just her.

i feed adlib hay too and very little hard feed to my commercial carriage horses and they have never been sick or sorry as a result andone does eat a full bale a night and one in the day as well if not out at grass
