How Many Small Bales to a 4 String 8ft?

Does anyone know roughly how many small bales an 8ft bale is?
Trying to work out the most cost effective option

Small bales for £7.00 or and 8ft for £85!!

a couple of years ago our farmer swapped to small bales and did 12 for the same price as the old big bales. but 12 was no where near enough! but when I researched the common theme was 10=15 smalls bales! I ended up having to buy in big bales as I couldn't justify the cost of small, I worked out it would cost me almost double what i was paying before if I carried on with small bales.

Normally about 10-12 small bales in a 4 stringer so considering ease of handling I’d stick to smalls!

There are normally about 40 smal bales to the ton
My big bales weigh approx 425kg.
So approx 18 small bales?
(With my very very rough mental arithmetic!)

Depends how compressed they are. I was disappointed with a local supplier who said they were 200kg - 8x4x3 - €80 over 5yrs ago.
I was weighing daily hay at the time so knew the real weight of each bale as 160kg.
Here small bales hay are average max 15kg €4.
Big bale = 10.6 small bales = @€43 small bale price for same weight as big bale. Would have been cheaper to get small bales by approx 50%! BUT - the big bale quality was far surperior as they had been put in driers and were perfectly made, whereas I’m yet to find a small bale of that quality. Swings and roundabouts.
