How many times a day do you feed your dogs?

As title really.
Does anyone feed once a day and if so is there a time of day that is better to feed, eg, morning better than evening etc.
Am also interested to know if there is a known reason for this?

Thankies

Puppy 8 weeks i stsill on 4 x a day and 3 1/2 year old has his twice a day 6am and 6pm ish.

I wouldn't want to feed to 3 year old all that in one go TBH.

Mine get fed once a day in the morning after they have helped me do the yard. Morning seems to suit them better. They get a Pedigree jumbone at around 5ish and a few biscuits at bedtime.
The only reason I feed like this is I had a rotty, sadly no longer with us, who I had to practically force feed. It was the way I got most food down her and now it is just my routine.

Mine get fed twice a day as one of them wouldn't be able to eat all of its food in one go. She is a fussy eater anyway and doesn't need to any excuse to stop eating.

Twice, morning and evening, would prefer just once a day but mother dearest wouldn't agree.
Our last dog did perfectly well on one meal a day, I think their stools seem to be firmer like that (NICE!) .

My dogs get 1 slice of dry toast for breakie, dog din dins at about 6pm and a doggie treat for bed about 11pm!!! Always very active and vet always admires their 'fisique' (if thats how you spell it)

the adult dogs in my house only get one evening meal, and a treat at bed time (very late in our house!)

Sorry, I did not read all the Op. I feed mie at 7pm, my dogs are exercised alot during the day so no time for extra food,
I don't do fussy eaters, they get one chance to eat and one chance only, my dogs are all ideal weight except one, he gets more food and added vegie oil, but he is very active, it does not concern me at all he is slightly under cos he is healthy.

Never had a problem with bloat, so that does not concern me, and I have a fair few breeds thats would suffer from it, if I managed them differently exercise, the amount I feed e,t,c.

With feeding once a day, would it make any difference to be morning or evening? Mine are fed once in the evening. Im wondering whether it would be better to feed them in the morning before they 'go out' as they spend all day running around the yard and fields...???
Or if in fact it would have any difference to them at all?

I know they are different to us but they always say breakfast is the most important meal of the day to maintain energy levels etc etc so would it be similar for them?

Twice a day, to avoid energy highs and lows. To quote my OH (nutritional advisor), it's better for digestion to eat more than once, and it keeps the blood sugars on a more even keel. Best to feed first thing in the morning, and then again early evening, to give them time to empty before bedtime.

I have fed my one meal morning and evening and saw no difference in the dogs themselves. The only reason I feed am now is down to the fussy eater we had and now I'm stuck in that routine. It works for mine so I see no reason to change.

Never had concern for the energy levels, dogs are designed to eat when they can, and spend alot of time on the move to get it, in the wild they would have to cover alot of miles before they got any grub at all, I feed at evening because this is when they settle does and me

they are on the go from early morning, and I dont like to feed within atleast 2 hours of exercise and mine run full pelt , not just a lead walk, so a big no no for food on their stomach.

I always feed twice daily, lean dogs that have quite alot of food so like to spread it out.
Also have a bonio before bed-although the older girl likes to turn in early so bullies for last wee & bonio about 7pm!

My mother's reasoning is that 24 hours is too long between meals for any animal.
Don't know why she thought it was OK for D to eat once in the morning, but not the last three?!

My female is a bolter but the male seems to struggle in the evening, he is a very active dog but he dosen't seem that bothered about food at teatime, he is also very 'loose' and I was wondering if I should feed him slightly less but only in the morning.

I feed twice a day - before work (around 7am) and after riding/walking the dogs (about 8pm!)

Not sure why TBH

I started feeding twice a day when I got greyhounds/lurchers instead of smaller dogs (had whippets before) and they needed more food. I think it was that I didnt want to overface them in one meal?

Its a habit now

When mine was younger i would always give some food before i went out to give him something else to think about. 10 years later and i still give a handfull of food before he is left alone and proper tea at night just before bed (he sleeps alone). No need to feed in this way now, but old habits die hard for me and the dog!

Also to add, the energy slumps thing is my own opinion, im not discrediting STR, heaven forbid, I dont want to make the same mistake as another post, and get accused of being patronising

My dog has always been a grazer, she gets fed whenever her bowl is empty really- usually at night(dry food). She obviously has her water checked throughout the day though!
She has always been a bit on the skinny side so I don't worry about over feeding her, she doesn't eat much!
