How many times a day do you feed your dogs?

I used to feed Roly and Lil once in the morning and once in the evening, but obviously doing this means they need to toilet during the day, which isn't great.

So I changed to one feed in the evening, but they are looking skinny now :( how do I combat this effectively?

We have always (apart from when she was tiny) fed twice, once in am once in pm. She just holds it during the day and toilets once when were home from work and once before bed.

Could you feed once when you get home from work and once before bed? Xxxx

Twice because although it's exactly the same amount of food, Jimmy seems to keep his weight on better. Plus they're at home all day whilst we're at work, which is sometimes a long day so I wouldn't want to leave them all day without something

Twice a day, but they get lots of walks.

So by cutting the feed to once a day were you hoping to just walk them once a day then? Sorry prob me being a div but I wouldn't expect my dogs to only go to the toilet (poo) once in 24 hours?

I feed twice a day, smaller meal in the morning and larger one in evening. If you are giving them a large meal at night it is probably that which they are pooing during the following day, if anything one large meal is likely to make them go more. Tbh I think if adult dogs have started messing in the house it means they can't cope with the length of time they are being left, is there any way you can get someone in to walk them if you have to leave them longer at the moment.

Twice for Stevie as well, 7am and 5pm although I leave his food down so he eats ad lib..... He poos on his morning and evening walks but not when he goes out during the day.....

Once in the evening after their tea they sleep. They only go to number two's once a day and have loads of exercise but If I feed twice on raw they put on weight.

They were being fed at 5am then walked. BUT they aren't going to poo out THAT food on THAT walk.

What they'd do was lose that food around 11 am by experience :(

I get home at lunchtime to put them out, so its not like they are left over 4 hours a time, however my feeding times cause them to need the toilet when I'm not there - hence trying to ammend times..

I can't feed them later in the morning because I'm not there.

Then I'd get home around 5pm say and then they'd be fed again - with our late night walk being 10ish and they'd have a poo - brilliant.

So by taking out the morning feed, I am not losing the walk (?) but lessenning the pressure on them needing the toilet? This was lead by watching Its me or the dog, where VS clearly says to lots of the people that they have to feed on a routine and make sure they are there when its poo-out time....

I would never give someone else the key to my house and only have my grandparents 10 miles away - so the only other choice is to leave them outside during the day, which I am sure they'd love BUT I am crippled by fear that they will be stolen or poisioned.

ETA:
If anyone can do me up a better more effective timetable for feeding feel free! The only times I can fit in a regular walk are 5am and LATE - circa 10/11pm. I do shift work so keeping a routine means these are the only hours I can guarentee they can be fed and walked 100% ontime!
(my shifts run 7am to 11pm in any order, so monday i could be in 7-3am and tuesday I could be 3-11pm etc etc) What I am trying to do is achieve a routine for them as everything i have read lately is saying routine is key but with this job I find routine hard, I was just feeding and walking them willy nilly each day - but they have much improved on a routine..

feed when you get home from morning walk, so just before you leave, then they have at least an extra hour they dont have to hold for until lunch?

Make breakfast just a token amount, same at lunchtime then main meal at 5pm as normal? I know it sounds like faffing around, but better than indoor poo?!

Oooh, tricky! Can you put some chubby-up food in the 5pm meal, like sardines for the weight? What about leaving a Kong stuffed with that Fish 4 Dogs mousse stuff for breaky. (By the way, its on offer at the moment, BOGOF!) Sorry, I'm a bit clueless, just trying to think what I would do!

I suppose I could do a tiny feed like you say Paisley, try that out for a few weeks!

ETA: this is why I find it so hard, basically the hours of the job are shite and I'm floundering to get any routine going (this extends to the horse too) so needing a bit of help.

Life will improve soon as I'm probably getting my own land, in which case dogs can come to horse with me and kill two birds with one stone :)
