It is such a pain in the bum, he gets turned out fully booted but the minute him and his neighbours start hooning around, you just know that a shoe will bite the dust!! Annoyingly I was supposed to have a very much needed SJ lesson tomorrow but he also pulled a muscle in his hind leg and wouldn't canter on it, that was before yanking off the shoe

I now have 2 weeks to cram in SJ and XC sessions before our first BE event

TBH Id try a different farrier! Honestly, it can be that simple. Ive known a few people who've had problems losing shoes, they change to someone else and the problem goes...!

None of mine ever loose shoes. I think the last time 1 lost one was 3 years ago but I actually saw him PULL it off himself!

Ours used to get one off a month, now we haven't had a single shoe off from 7 ponies full shod atall, well at least since last march!

Well i'd agree with you if our farrier wasn't one of the top ones in the country!! Boo has heart bars on the front so it's an open invitation for being yanked off, but it's so bl00dy frustrating!!

My mare used to loose a shoe every other week.

I eventually changed farriers and that fixed it.

She hasn't lost a shoe between visits in years. Even if I leave it a bit too long.

Badger has never pulled one off in 3 1/2 years, but my dads TB, Tully, normally has at least one a month and they have the same farrier.

Might be worth a change though..

I've had it happen once to me in about 10 years, and that was because I had just bought the horse and she hadn't been shod by my farrier.

Horse used to pull shoes off regularly. When I changed farrier, I asked him if he was able to come out at short notice if shoes came off etc, and he said "these shoes won't come off" ... that was about 5 years ago and he was absolutely right, he's never lost one since, and neither have the other two horses he does at my yard.

Mine used to do it regular and now I cant use overreach because they rub and make his feet sore.Might be able to try the soft roma ones for field but they wont do the job in the school. It did improve when we changed farrier but he is bare foot at the mo after surgery.

Mine used to lose shoes until I started feeding Farriers Formula. It is a problem with heart bars though - very frustrating for you.

Morris got into the lovely habit of catching his fronts on the wire fence and yanking them off. He found it hilarious! Only slightly annoying... and expensive! He pulled off both in a day once. And his back feet were in really poor condition when I bought him - he lost 3 shoes in a month once. My farrier's had quite a lot of business! But I know its not his bad shoeing, it's Morris cr*p feet (which are now much better). He lost a front last week, but was due to be shod anyway, so that was ok.

I once had a pony with awful feet. Shoes flying off everywhere, and I once remember letting her loose in our "yard" bit while waiting for the farrier, she was trotting around and turned sharply and a shoe flew off and over the hedge! She hadn't even touched it with her back feet! Anyway we changed farriers regularly (she was a pain and most farriers lost their tempers with her) and then ended up with my (fantabulous) current farrier. He shod the pony, my own pony, and my current horse and I think we have lost a shoe once in the last seven ish years. Even then it took a good tread and yank to twist it off!
Then trouble I have now is that my horse will need shoeing in seven weeks' time and my farrier won't come out to her field. The farrier I have trimming her at the moment, I will NOT let anywhere near my horse's feet with a hammer and nail as I don't trust anyone other than MY farrier!! Am having to arrange to box Maiden to someone else's yard just to shoe her

Brought my horse in tonight and he has a loose shoe! Blooming typical - in time for the weekend. The farrier is due on Weds though. Do I risk riding tomorrow?
Btw - this is the first time he has a problem since I've had him last July and it has been seven weeks since he was last shod.

Mine loses shoes on a regular basis, probably 7-8 times in the last year, maybe more.
My farrier describes him as a "pussy" when he has lost a shoe as he acts like he's had his lower limb removed!! As soon as he has one banged on, he's fine within the hour.

Very, very frutrating and a change of farriers has not changed this pattern.

My horse used to lose shoes all the time but my farrier put double clips on his front feet, like back shoes! And now he never loses shoes!

Does he wear overreach boots? Was discussing this problem yesterday as I have same problem. Was told overreach boots were my answer with hoof hardner.

I was also told to work my horse harder to stop him hooning around in the first place!

Your farrier could be the best in the world - but if his shoeing doesn't suit your horse then shoes will fly!

Also, In answer to your question - none anymore - there was too many shoes lost and my mares feet were getting awful, so we went barefoot!!
