How many times a week do you gallop your horse??

Rauti adores it and I normally try to gallop him once a week (though obviously there are weeks when we can't, because it's raining etc)

We have a long gallop track at the yard so it's perfect. I think it's especially important for a dressage horse who is otherwise working in the school all the time!

Frodo probably goes galloping on the track once a month...

Depends what I'm doing tbh, he'll usually have a burn about 3 times a week I guess. If I'm out schooling in our SJ paddock I aways have a gallop to finish off on round there as it's about 8 acres and plenty big enough and a nice note for him to finish on.
If I'm out hacking there's quite a few places round with nice ground so usually have a fast canter/steady gallop out hacking normally anyway.
Proper proper gallop, ie quick burn, I'll do once or twice a week or when I feel like it tbh.

He's ex racer but very rarely gets razzed up bless him haha and gives him a bit more oomph and to blow the cobwebs out.

My mare has a naturally slow, off the floor canter so i make her extend whenever the ground is decent as she needs to learn to gallop to event this year.

at the momenet never. :(
when i was within 10mins walking time of the beach- usually 2x week for a good steady long gallop. occassionally let them out for a full blast when the ground is very good.
hoping to go to some gallops once a month and the beach once a month for a hack and will probably have a controlled steady gallop if the ground is decent.

Depends on how wet the ground is but if i go on a hack i hack canter round this field then let him go up one side of it at a good gallop, in the summer this is nearly everyday, although vary which fields we go round... he does get galloped a lot, but this is so he can let off steam but also keeps his fitness up if i combine it with plenty of slow hacking canters :)

I wish I could gallop Bodey more, but realistically I only get a really good gallop out hunting or on sponsored/ XC rides. I canter out hacking at least once a week though. He loves galloping and so do I!

I never gallop them, why do you have to do that!!? why risk breaking an already fragile animal? I guess you would only do it once or twice to get a stuffy horse going forwards.

Even when I evented at Intermediate/CCI* level, they never got galloped, not even for Novice do you need to do canter sets, it was only when they were going to do Intermediate/ the old fashoined type of 3 day event they did canter sets.
Generally plenty of hacking out and school work a couple of times a week is enough to keep them fit.

Because it’s fun, and they love it! And that’s why we have horses! Haven’t had one break on me yet because of having a good old gallop. Maybe be different if it’s your career but for most of us this is our hobby!

Very very rarely. I have an ex racehorse who just finds it too exciting and just blows his mind. Also don't have anywhere long enough locally as he's quite fit and doing quick blast just means he'll be buggering about the rest of the ride.

But I don't think that means I'm letting him miss out on anything. He has a gallop and a play in the field and appears perfectly interested in his work without having to blast it off. If thats something you enjoy then great, but i don't think you should feel that you have to.

I love a good gallop - my horse is a bit stuffy and it really makes him more forward thinking. Unfortunately there are not many places that you can gallop safely so usually have to box somewhere. That's why I love sponsored rides as they usually have lots of lovely safe gallops.

Seabiscuit (ironic you should have a name of a racehorse ;) ) I don't understand why galloping is bad for them as long as it is on decent ground and they are fit enough for it? There are lots of things potentially damaging to horses e.g. jumping massive X-country fences and even dressage can put massive strain on joints and tendons.

I do canter work out hacking roughly once a week. Sometimes I try to keep it slow, others I let it get faster depending on what I feel like.

I'm lucky enough to have four miles of sandy beach a few minutes ride from the yard so I don't worry so much about her joints - before I moved yards I used to stick to walk and trot all summer as I won't canter on hard ground.

Before her foot troubles I would say once or twice a week out hacking, she enjoys a good blast, not that we have done for so long. She does seem sound just now not that I have ridden much at all for one reason or another but I am hoping to do more after college and final exams are all done and dusted :)
If her foot would allow I would have a short blast on her out hacking, highly unlikely though it is, if she were up to it I would happily. I know plenty of people who do not gallop as they do not like it, too fast for them

I gallop Charlie (ex race horse) at least once every 2 weeks. This helps to keep him sane in his other work. He tends to tell me when he needs one! I try to gallop the day before a show just to take the edge off him. I am lucky that there is a good forestry track nearby, that is nice and long. Im also lucky that Charlie also knows where to stop at the end of the track.

I gallop when I can, ground allowing. We do have a nice old railway line track that is a bridleway so it's a pretty good long gallop track (save for the odd dog walker you have to slow down for! Lol)

Our horses have always had good gallops out on hacks - ok so more so in the spring/summer when the ground's better, but they do not fizz up after galloping so it's all good fun. We do have an ex racer (26 yo) and you struggle to canter him on a hack when and if he does go out as he does nothing but jog the whole ride afterwards - not enjoyable at all!!! Lol
