How many times a week do you 'school' your horse?

Hi,

Just wondering how many times everyone schools their horse in the school, not adding in anything you do on hack, just going in the school to work on the flatwork (and not jumping)...??
x

At the moment every night during the week as its still just a little too dark to ride after work.

During summer probably 2-3 days schooling depending on what we've got coming up.

once a week or once a fortnight.... have lesson once a fortnight anymore is a bonus

no school and field now waterlogged so hacking or going round the outside again atm!

summer once or twice a week, we make a bit quicker progress then

I usually ride in the school 3 times a week with a day off inbetween, some weeks i will do two days flatwork and jumping and one day just flatwork others i will do two just flatwork and the other jumping and flatwork. Sometimes i will lunge instead of ride on one of the days. Weekends i hack one day and have a lesson the other. This will change once the evenings are lighter.

3-5 days per week depending on what mood/ how wussy (sad i know!) i am feeling about hacking/jumping! He gets ridden 6/7 days per week though as he is not out much per day atm so needs all the leg streches he can get!

6 times a week in winter, when we can only use the indoor arena. 5 times a week when the weather is good and I can take him for a gallop round the racetrack.

Frodo who is only 5 is schooled 4 times a week -- he gets lunged once and has 2 days off.

3 or 4 times a week, and then one hack and maybe one pole/jump day.

im mainly a dressage rider so do minimal jumping and my hakcing is pants. i do feel able to keep the school work varied enough that i dont bore the pants off them!

previous mare refused to hack in any safe manner, and didnt jump so did 6 days a week in the school and wasnt bored/sour.

Never... there is not a school within 3 miles of where Ellie lives and I don't have a horse box. The field is waterlogged and she hates schooling anyway, so do I. I do any schooling type work whilst out hacking, it is sooo much more entertaining! In the summer I try and school in the smaller paddock and maybe get in a schooling session once every week or two.

I am generally a (very) happy hacker and only really school or jump when I feel really really enthusiastic about it. However with my friend training to be an instructor and wanting victims *cough* volunteers for schooling and jumping lessons I think that if you asked me in a couple of months the figures would be very different!

Ali gets 4 times a week, and 1 hack
orion was getting 3 schooling, 1 hack and 2 lunging, but now sore back, so resting.
Ballerina, gets some lunging, and walking ridden 5 times a week
ellie, gets 4 times a week.
Dont ask how i fit it all in, Im not sure!!!!!!!!!!

My old girl is working 5 days a week to get ready for the show season, She is hacking out one day, lungeing another, 2 days schooling and one day walking and trotting up my hill, she never works for long though, 30-40 mins at a time (apart from lungeing when she only does about 15-20 mins).

I was very lucky I fell on my feet going to a cheap, small, laid back yard - which had a school. So through the winter it's been twice a week but obviously going to be way upped in the next few weeks

In summer he's ridden 6 days a week, 3 schooling, 1 lunge, 2 hack.

At the moment he is only being ridden 4-5 times per wk and is schooled 2 a week, 1 lunge, 1 hack.

Prob once a fortnight atm the moment if I'm lucky, hacked out twice a week and does 'school' on hacks.

Will be upped to once or maybe twice a week in the summer, or though this won't be every week I don't think. Don't have my own school, so have to rely on hacking and the field when its dry enough. Will lunge on the grass once a week in the summer.

For the work my horse does (RC eventing and BSJA mainly in summer) I prefer to have more road work than schooling anyway - they have to do dressage tests on grass most of the time, so should be used to working on grass imho

Chancer - once or twice a week - that is all he needs and I normally do 30 mins max. I also sometimes also school on hacks and often have a jump or two up so I can let him have a bit of fun and then a bit more work.

Farra really does not enjoy schooling, so I do normally have a jump up and every 5 minutes, she gets some fun as her reward and then another 5 minutes schooling.

I try to give them variety so when they go in the school they are enjoying it rather than going round doing it because I insist on it.

I also like to work from the ground once a week, schooling them on the lunge using the whole school.

He is professionally schooled 2/3 times a week, I have a flatwork lesson and school him myself 2 days a week, and he is hacked at least once a week if not more (sometimes school first then hack out). However am trying to introduce jumping into the equation as well now...

My general routine is to school on the flat on alternate days interspersed with hacking (only road walking), jumping (either grid or a course) and canter work (total 20mins cantering) and hunting once a fortnight followed by a day off.

So it goes something like this:
flat, jump, flat, canter work, flat, hack, flat, jump, flat, canter work, flat, hack, flat,
hunt, day off

This is the first time I've ever had an indoor school, stabled my horse overnight and had a field only 2mins walk from the yard, and it's done wonders for my winter riding motivation! When I go back home in the holidays I see my poor mum and sister dragging wet muddy horses in from the field in the pitch black, walking 20mins to the yard and then trudging round a crowded flooded school, before feeding and walking them back out
