How many times a week do you think you should see your horse?

As above really :) Just interested in everyone's opinions - do you think that you should only have a horse if you can see it every day, or is it okay to see it once or twice a week if you live far away from your yard, for example?

I think you should see it every day (unless on full livery)
I can only see Ned once or twice a week at the moment, hence why I'm not loaning him yet!

My horse is on full livery, i see him 4-5times per week. Even if i only have time to groom, treat some days.

I like to see mine twice a day, but I am lucky that I am able to.

I know a lot of horses on full livery, who may not see their owner once a week even, but appear perfectly happy with the situation!

As long as the horses' physical and emotional needs are met on a day to day basis, I don't see that it matters how often an owner visits.

If its on full livery then its not really such an issue as long as they are at a good yard that will cater for their needs. On DIY twice a day, even when mines livivng out I still see him twice a day just to check he is ok.

I see mine everyday unless i'm injured or ill or on hols. That said they are horses and should fit round us to a certain extent as long as someone they know visits and cares for them regularly.

This.

I have several owners who are extremely attached to their horses, but for various reasons often don't see them for weeks on end. The horses don't mind, they are happy and well cared for. It doesn't bother me one way or another:)

Doesn't matter if it's the owner or not, but somebody competent should check them a minimum of twice a day.

(I say competent, because I can't believe how many people seem to think it's ok to drive up to the field, peer in, see if the horse is actually in there and drive off without even getting out of the damn car, let alone going up to the horse.)

I see mine everyday all day most the time. He's at my work. I'm actually looking forward to going on holiday to not have to do him!

I am on DIY and see my horse pretty much every day, I share the workload with another livery to some degree, so I sometimes get a day off. Our yard is fairly large with some very observant people, plus YO lives on site so all the horses are for a large part of the day kept on eye on which is very reassuring on top of my seeing her :)

ETS: That as long as the horse is cared for properly then it does not matter if an owner does not see their horse every day, I do not judge others for not seeing their horses every day. I prefer to see my own pretty much every day as I miss not seeing her

In winter, I see mine twice a day as they are in at night! In Summer (24/7 turnout), I usually drop by on the way to work in the morning just to say hi and do a quick check! Then I feed, ride and poo pick in the evening! When I had mine on full livery, then I would still drop by to feed every day unless I was away for the weekend! I always think they love the one who feeds them the most:)

2 plus times a day if you're the sole carer. If the beast is on full livery you can go and visit it as infrequently as you desire - if you trust the yard!

A week :eek::eek: :D:D ive my own wee place,2 minutes from home so its 2-3 times a day for me :)

Haha, because I live in the city I am asking in terms of 'weekly' rather than 'daily', as I would never be able to see my horse every day! (Not that I have one, just dreaming of course ;) ) But it seems that lots of people on here get to see their horses every day! :)

I'm on a great yard where all I do is muck out and ride - the rest is done for me (and I can get a mercy muck-out if need be). Even so, I see him every day, bar the odd day when work is mental. Not just for riding, but for just spending time, even if it's a scratch and a treat. My time with him will be too short even if he lives to be 40, and I want as much of it as I can get.

Mine's on part livery and I have one day off from the yard a week. It's a 10 mile cycle each way from home, but on my way home from work so I usually have a weekend day off, at least until I move nearer. I trust the yard staff completely, and she's quite content to not be worked every day, so I have no qualms about missing a day with her.

I think a horse should be seen twice a day minimum...whether that's by you, or full livery, or whatever arrangement with whoever.

Ditto this. I enjoy having my horse on DIY (he was for a period on part livery (included everything bar riding)) and I enjoy doing him myself and consider myself, on the whole, lucky to be able to do so.

However, if I go on holiday for a week or so or just simply have non-horsey plans for a day/weekend then I have no qualms putting him on livery with Y/M for that time and I know he will be fine. :)

Mines on DIY so I'm usually there twice (sometimes 3 times on the weekend) per day. When I was in school my dad would only bring me to the yard 4/5 days a week, after school but our yard had a rota so they were fed breakfast and lunch and there was always someone on the yard. My friend would look after my horse the other 2/3 days and I done the same for her every week. I can't stand people leaving there horse all day then ringing you and asking you to through some haylage in, so therefore the horse has been stood 24hrs having not been mucked out and will usually be stood there until tea time the next day to be mucked out (so a total of around 24hrs)!!

Depends on circumstances & what livery or 'parking' you have.

I have own yard which is not at home,; mine are seen a minimum of twice a day by me all year round.
Whilst I have BF on box rest, yard visits are 4 - 5 times a day by myself & helpful family & friends :)
