How many times a week (inc weekends) do you ride in winter?

Have my boys at home with an arena and work 8am-4pm so life is easier for me. Currently have one out of work due to injury but my new 4 yr old is exercised 6-7 days a week. Monday is lunging, Tue schooling, Wed lunging, Thurs schooling, Fri flat work lesson, Sat - either a sj lesson, competition or a hack and sunday the same either a hack, competition or jump lesson..... if the sat has been really busy then he gets sunday off just depends what the sat is like! He also misses randome lunging/schooling sessions if im busy/going out that eve so none of it is set in stone! It may seem quite a bit of work but the sessions are no longer than 20-30 mins unless its a lesson. Come spring hopefully my other lad will be coming back into work so for him it will be hacking for 3-4 months before anything else is incorporated!

I ride every day unless the weather is really bad but I have 4 horses so have to alternate. If it's blowing a gale or pouring down there's only two I would bother riding for my own safety (the other two are youngsters).
We have a school at home and good hacking on and off the farm. I also work from home and so usually ride before starting work, or get one ridden or lunged at lunch.

I have two horses and try to ride at least 3 times a week minimum. I mostly hack at the moment because my mare is still only young so Im happy to just get her out and seeing things at the moment. My gelding hates schooling so I always just hack with him anyway.

Reading this thread with interest as this is my first winter with my own. The past 2 weeks have been a disaster in terms of riding (lack of instructor, the kevins, the weather, social life) but i'm hoping to get back on track soon. I hope to manage 3/4 times a week once things settle down.

2 or 3 times a week if I'm lucky, as I work full time and Scottish winters are the pits!

During the week it would need to be schooling as we have a floodlit arena but are next to a busy road so I wouldn't hack in the dark. At the weekend I might do either, although I normally have a lesson on a Saturday morning.

It'll probably be even less next winter as we'll have moved the horses up to the house by then and won't be putting an arena in for at least a couple of years ...

Sorry to hijack post, but couldn't help noticing comment about in season - my mare has, for second year in a row, turned into an absolute madam in November, and I am convinced as she has been angel for the last 6 months, that it's something relating to hormones.

Any thoughts / advice on this gratefully received!!

Funny you say that as mines a total PITA currently. My vet said it was to do with them changing from having regular seasons to not having any at all. I guess i've hit double unlucky too due to her only being with us 5/6 months and is now in the testing period. I just wish she'd get over it now, riding isn't fun :(

Back to OP, I ride about twice a week recently due to weather and horse being a pain. I used to do 4/5 times a week and hopefully should be able to get back to that soon. No plan apart from fittening her up - well, trying too. If i had an indoor school, she'd be ridden everyday.
