How many times can you clip?

My boy is currently clipped out. He is looking a bit fluffy and so was considering tidying him up. A friend said I shouldn't clip him again as it can ruin his coat - I assumed as long as you didn't clip once the summer coat had started coming through you were fine.

Do other people clip more than once?

Your friend is wrong. You can clip your horse every week if you want, you need to stop clipping in late winter, depending on when his coat starts to change, my TB I could clip until end Feb, later than that would affect her summer coat coming through. At this time of year you do not need to worry.

My hairy cob gets clipped all year round, every 4 weeks, otherwise he sweats too much to work. On mild winter days, he would sweat just standing in the field. Not much into showing, but didn't seem to affect his chances as he's managed to get Coloured Horse Champion at large local shows when clipped.

I clipped my hairy at the end of sept and his has grown back so will have to re do him soon, but we are planning on showing him nxt summer so he will be getting it all taken for the summer come the end of feb/march. At the moment he has just got a trace.

I did my fourth clip of winter last weekend. At the moment I'm clipping every other weekend otherwise Genie is pushing lots of hair through and sweating like mad. I will stop clipping at the end of January.
