How many times did you see/ride your horse before you bought?

My mum had Polly on loan for 5 years by the time she bought her - although we classed her as our horse long before the transaction actually took place!

I knew of Bentley for a couple of years before I had anything to do with him, he was owned by another livery, and backed by our old YO - which I had sometimes watched (at this point I had no intention of buying him!) His previous owner was too busy with college work for him, so I had him on loan for about two months before deciding to buy him.

Last year when I was looking:

1st visit: rode, and he was a good boy
2nd visit: rode and he was a good boy
3rd visit: rode again, and said yes, I will have him and arranged the vetting for 3 day's time (first chance the vet had in his diary).

4th visit: (before the vetting) - asked if I could have a little ride while waiting for the vetting in a couple of days time... within minutes, the horse went absolutely mental, bronced around the school non-stop - somehow I stayed on...as I pushed him on again after he'd calmed down, he did it again - bronced around bigtime, this time got me off, threw me against the fence, and I fractured a vertebrae in my spine, and had to be taken to hospital.

No more visits.

A couple days later the seller called me to ask what time the vet was coming to do the vetting. Errmmm, he's not? surprised she hadn't worked that out!

I found out afterwards he did the same to the seller a few days later, and she hurt her back as well. I also found out that quite a few people knew of this horse and his reputation, and said they wouldn't touch him with a bargepole, and that he's a lunatic.

 That was a close one! Thank god you went back a 4th time!

I went once and pointed from a distance which I wanted Haha , wild untouched so had to be done hes a wonderful little yearling and will make a very good family pony in the future my other I didn't even bother to go see him just got them to drop him off that week also brilliant

My current horses...
Saw goggles in field and recognised him from when i worked at his trainers yard, asked person why he was there etc and they said he was for sale and to go ride him so went and found tack etc got on him and went out for a hack and he was a kn0bber! Took him in school and he ran backwards through a fence! Lived him tho so picked him up next day! Had 2.5 years of riding before he retired!

Parker was at a trainers yard and they rang me up to see if I wanted him so I said yes and they delivered him that day, however he wasn't the horse I thought he was so didn't say anything! However I'm so glad I did keep quiet he us amazing!

Kings was from same yard and always liked him! He is very like Parker just alot more sporty! I did try him tho!

Bubbles was at work and we were told he should retire due to a head problem! He is a **** with everyone bar me so the owner gave him to me ad a companion to goggles!

I have another coming in September a big tb who is quite naughty but we shall c what he is like !

Once. He was over in Anglesey, it was a windy day and he was on top note! I didn't actually ride him - the bloke selling him wasn't particularly sensitive with handling him, and the horse was just getting more and more upset. I thought he had a kind eye so went ahead and bought him. He was 3 then, had him ever since.

Thought I was going to have one but didn't like it second time round!

My current horse I viewed twice with different experienced people, had her vetted and brought her home :)
