In summer, when the horses are turned out 24/7, how many times do you visit your horse? Do you see them every day, and if so do you see them once or twice a day? Or more?

At my first yard through summer I always used to just visit once a day, check her over, ride if I wanted to.
Now I see her twice a day, and because of how close she is to my house, I regularly see her 3 or 4 times a day (walk dogs past or a later visit if I'm worried. i worry alot!)

Well, I live and work in Hong Kong but my horses are in Morocco so I don't see them for a year(!) then when I do go to Morocco for 7 weeks in the summer I stay with them for the whole day 6 days a week - on their day off I'll still come up and ride or turn them out too. When I'm not there they are semi-retired to a farm and just turned out and brought in with nobody riding them. ONLY FOUR DAYS TO GO AND I'VE WAITED A YEAR TO SEE THEM AHhhhhhhh!

I got 4 or 5 times a week at present due to illness. They are on full livery and are well looked after but I wish I could get up there more often. Still I am slowly, but surely, getting better.

i see mine once a day but another lady checks mine over and feeds them for me in the morning but shes away at the mo so im doing both mine and her horses twice a day :)

I actually go out into the field at least 3 times each day; first thing to check them over, later on to poo-pick and then in the evening to feed. If I want to know what they're up to the rest of the time I can just check out the window - it's great having them at home. :D

When they were on grass livery we went up twice per day all year round.

Once a day as it's a right PITA of a drive and YO keeps an eye on them/checks them for me. YO likes to get up and wander round the yard at odd hours of day and night (4am!!) and can watch them from his conservatory where he & his wife spend a fair bit of time so they're rarely not being watched. This time of year he's forever having to check that they aren't dead 'cause they like to sunbathe :D

in the summer when she's out 24/7, once a day every day. My friends live there so all the horses are checked regularly all day

in the winter, twice a day every day

If no one lived on site, I'd be up there at least twice a day, every day

I think once a day is fine if out 24/7.

On a yard with other people about and the YO on site, if something happens, I'll hear about it.

I don't really see what added value there is in my doing an extra 40 minute round trip to stare at them over the fence for five minutes and check they still have four legs - when something could easily happen five minutes after me leaving anyway.

:D that made me laugh

Mine is on full livery but I still go up once a day to groom even if I'm not working her. If I'm working away, I'm training OH to go up ;)

Twice a day every day.

We are soon going to be moving into log cabins that are being built at the yard so ey'll then get a late night check too!

I go to my mare twice a day, she's kept at a livery yard and has 2feeds a day/rug change/sometimes ride. My other 2 are at a friends house and I go to them once a day, I'd soon know if there was a problem and it saves on petrol which is a massive cost at the moment. During the winter they'l all be stabled and seen to twice a day at least...althought I don't want to start thinking about the winter just yet...!!

While out 24/7 just once a day but she is on a busy Livery yard/riding school with staff there all day so there are people there in an emergency.

Twice a day, everyday.
Sometimes 3 times a day if I'm planning on riding in the afternoon instead of the evening.

I couldn't stand not being able to see my boy at least twice a day.

My 2 are out 24/7, I see them once a day when I'm here, but can be away for a day or two at a time for work. But the YO is down a few hours a day, and checks all the horses, and another owner goes down every day too at a different time, so I'm happy that they are checked regularly.

I quite agree

i go up once a day, then if not riding then they stay out...i'm lucky cuz we have a YO on site with binoculars who spies on them all and is good at keeping an eye on them all for us :)

Usually twice a day - especially in this heat. Go early to hang the oats to drain and check the drinkers are working, then do work round the yard or with the youngsters. Feed my two forage before we go home at lunchtime and then back in the evening, when it is cooler, to ride and put up the feeds.

Today, only once. The YO would call me if there were any problems as she lives on site and can see most of the horses from her terrace - plus she, or one of her kids will be feeding or turning out every morning. Mine are out 24/7.

I spend a lot of time at the yard - it is virtually my job!

With my old boy when he shared the local riding schools field I saw him twice at weekends and in return for me feeding mine and theirs In the morning they would see to him at night.

When he was at home it was twice and pony is next to the house so about a million times a day :)

In summer just once a day as he is out 24/7 to check he is still standing, has water, fly mask and poo pick daily.

Thats it.

In winter twice a day due to hay and water freezing up. Poo pick same as above really.

fortunately horses with other owners nearby and neighbours who keep an eye so I know they would be on phone if anything else was amiss.

At least twice a day, once at 7am and again at 5pm. If I ride then I'd go down mid morning or mid afternoon. :) usually is 3/4 times a day though!! My girls so mischevious I'd worry if I left her too long she'd be in the security caravan or in the next door neighbours garden!!
