How many times have you clipped your horse so far since september?

I gave my mare her second clip today, and it was like clipping a hairy bear! Would never have thought there was so much coat on her second clip - the first I did 4 weeks ago! She now looks like she has leg warmers (I've left the legs on, as I hate clipping at the best of times, and loath clipping legs). Luckily, apart from her jaw, she is amazing to clip.

I refuse to clip any of the racehorses before 1st October or as late in September as possible. Some I have clipped 3x some I have only clipped once. It entirely depends on the horse. Some French lines don't grow much of a coat so they only get done once a season.

Some I haven't clipped at all yet but that is not through them not needing it it's due to me being the only person on the yard that can clip and between riding, racing and clipping I am basically doing them when they get an entry and not before as I don't have time to do randoms.

Just had second clip but he probably could have done with it a couple of weeks ago. His first clip only lasted about 3 weeks. This is normal though - first grows out really quickly, second less so and the third (in the new year) will last until his summer coat comes through

One twice so far and due another soon.
The other two not at all yet because my lightweight clippers finally gave up the ghost dealing with the first

Pony 3 times, big horse once, spotty horse zero because she grows no coat and has been largely off games anyway

Coblet has been clipped 5 times. Had to do her very beginning of September as was sweating just standing in her stable. She then needs doing every two or three weeks. It's starting to slow down now, so probably one in December, one in January, and then that will hopefully be it - unless we get a warm Easter again.
The thoroughbred has been done once, and should only need doing again in the new year ?

And then the summer is spent clipping the Shetlands

BH is having time to mature so is delightfully fluffy and unclipped. I have also allowed poo stains so he will probably need a full clip to get clean again!

Rigs had one belly/bib clip. He seems fine with just that but doesn't work very hard. He does a few hundred yards' dash with much tossing of mane but is soon back in walk.

Once. But she’s retired and I only clip because she grows her winter coat too early and then gets too hot through autumn.
She’s getting fluffy again now but it’s worked out well because the temperature is dropping.

My ridden horses clip consists of a single stripe behind his ears (he can get a bit scabby there over winter if left fluffy). I think I might need to re-clip that.

Charlie, at least twice - he was still on summer clips in September ?
Bon once, but he'll be getting a bit more off this weekend.
And I've done 2 other ponies belonging to Charlie's owner - my clippers earn their keep!

Same. I clipped my shetland in September and it’s nearly grown out now. I’m a bit concerned by how thick his coat is this year, but hoping that means cold and dry, rather than the warm wet winters we’ve had lately.

Twice. 25/10 and 16/11. I got more off him the second time. He looks so smart, such a foamy horse I’m sure he will feel better too.

Out of interest, why? We have had various horses with various clips and at least two would have been miserably sweaty if we had stuck to this. Native is clipped all the year round.

Little A has had gullet and belly clipped every 4 weeks since mid Sept.
B Fuzzy had her 3rd clip nearly 3 weeks ago, all having half face, complete front from saddle off inc belly, a v effective working clip as been able to go out without a rug on warmer days.
She wont get another clip till just after xmas now tho as having a mini break.

3 times, but the first time (22nd sept) didn’t really need doing, was just to get him used to clippers again (and had to do a full clip so he didn’t look completely patchy for competing!)

From when I was training at PF - was drummed into us after Jan it can mess with their summer coat and before October there is not enough to clip. Obviously it is horses for courses, I rug up early and slow the growth of the hair and my ID only started getting sweaty in end October Nov. Normally October just before sponsored ride then in Jan sees her through till coat casting.

Horses who are mega hairy or Cushing's may need more often but this is what i stick too and it suffices me. :)

I keep meaning to do the native pony but she got drenched last weekend and I haven't had time this weekend. She's like a little hairy bear and I'm sure she wasn't this fluffy last year.

Baby cob was fully clipped out with feathers off and mane hogged when he came to me. Very smart then but now looking a bit feral. I'm not sure he's doing enough to need clipping.

Was hoping once would do the trick (it did last year) but living out he’s getting fluffy so might need another round. He needs sedating so it’s expensive!

I saw a well known lady who clips for a living post to say if they’re well rugged once clipped, the coat grows back slower. Is there any truth in that?

My friends cob and ISH clips grow back very slowly, but she really rugs them up.. all my horses always seem to grow back in a few weeks but feel warm enough to me.
