How many times have you come off your horse...

16 times! :o :D

2 of which were in a jumpinglesson I had just before I bought him......didn't put me of though (isn't the saying even a monkey learns.......:p)

In nearly 14 months I've fallen off three times. Once head first into a stream (this is when I first discovered he didn't like running water) and twice in the school-both when he's spooked-once when I was working without stirrups.
When I first learnt to ride I kept count. I'd got to 250in a couple of years so you can see where my name came from...

I haven't been off for a while but the last fall was a cracker.

We have a lovely hour block that does include a ford crossing. The big horse never totally agreed with getting his feet wet but generally would paddle in and out without too much fuss.

After a wet spell the ford was quite high and running a little faster than normal. Knowing it had a firm bottom we decided to go through it, my horse is 17.2 and my friend was on a 15.2. I lead the way and this is how my friend described what happened next...

' Perhaps something hit his legs, he leapt clean up in the air, all four feet were out of the water (which was at least 2'6" deep), he did not buck or kick and I can't see why you flew off so high above his back (smart arse), he did not spin and I can't see how you missed his back when you came back down, (ha bloody ha), he tried very hard not to step on you when you disappeared under the water and he did not run off either (who needs friends like you !)

I climbed back on, soaked from head to foot and I had sand where one should not have sand. It took all of an hour for the entire village to know I had been dumped in the ford. Five years on my friend still has a fit of the giggles when we hack that route.

Zero times, had her 4 years, 7 months

I've fallen off lots of other horses before, don't get me wrong I'm not a good rider lol, but never off my Molly moo.

She is sharp and prone to spooking/stopping dead etc but she has massive shoulders and is very honest and always leaves her head up (even if she refuses a fence) so I maintain she is impossible to fall off ;) she just sort of holds you in the saddle :)

Came close though - rather funny hunting sequence here:

Once, off my old girl, and that was around 16 years after I bought her! She's now 27 and retired so I can say, conclusively, that I've only fallen off her once! However, her son is another story - only fell off him once, with awful results for me - head of femur fractured in 7 places and spine in 2....but that's horses for you!

Current one - 0 in two years.

Last one - 0 in 3 and a half years.

One prior to that - 0 in 2 years.

One prior to that - 0 in 12 months.

One prior to that - three times in three years.

Prior to those I fell off lots so lost count on each.

I have come off twice in the last twelve months, though - but I don't own either of those :)

I've had Mollie 18 months and haven't fallen off her yet. Mind you, that's cos I'm too scared of falling off to do much with her! :o

I'm scared that at my age (and with possible osteoporosis) I'll hurt myself badly if I fall off. I can't afford to be off work. I'm also pretty scared of hacking out alone, as if I came off, what would happen to Moll? The roads are dangerous round here.

Does everyone over 50 become such a scaredy-cat? :o

My daughter's fallen off Moll twice, and a youngster who rides Moll once a wekk has also fallen off her twice. Another very competent young rider rode her one day, but Moll did not like her at all, went into a full bronc and threw her. :o

The Old Appy, we had for 23 years and no-one ever fell off her, they wished they could get off a fair few times, but she kept you there, through every spin, jink and balmy moment :D She even kept sister absolutely straight in the saddle, when she had her left feet on a path and her right feet on a bank two foot higher! One of her favourite moves was to rub her mouth on her front leg when ridden, if you didn't let her she would simply bring the leg up to her mouth.
Have fallen off the current Appy twice in six years (fingers crossed) both times she did the 'stop and drop' once jumping, once cantering on a track when a rogue frond of haylage wrap threatened to bite her legs off :D. No injuries from falls, but have wrecked the tendons in my left wrist having deliberately dismounted on a stupidly narrow track, caught my foot on some sheep netting, mare shot off backwards, I kept hold (have done on the falls too, early training is not possible to overcome!) and previously broken wrist protested.

Had my horse since Sep 2011 fallen off 7 times

The first being a nasty one, ended up in hospital , operation to remove dead calf muscle, skin grafts etc and 3 months off work. He crushed my leg with his feet as he stood on me.

Every fall has been a large buck. His specialty when he feels like it. Most recent was out a hack in Dec 2013. Over excited having been off for 3 weeks.

Owned one 16 years never been hurt by her
owned another 8 years he has bitten me and broken my leg in several places but that was on the gorund
Owned the Connie 7 years never hurt although she has knocked me ove once or twice
Bred a foal now 4 never been hurt by her
So only ever been injured on the ground
Been riding 50 years and only been hurt a handful of times mostly on the ground or doing silly things

Had mine two years, not come off him to date... Now I've said that I'll probably fall off tomorrow  Came off pony once when he fell, and old horse a lot, generally from a standstill!! He was naughty :D

Had mine just over a year and and have only come off 3 times I think!
Once was my fault - was doing grids and took a massive flyer at a bounce, I cleared the second one he didn't!
We stumbled round a slippery corner and I had come off and was back on again before I had really touched the ground!
Silly horse slipped on concrete in the yard due to a teenage tantrum and we both hit the deck but both unharmed!
Very lucky he is exceptionally good at finding a fifth leg (or sixth or seventh!) and I have ridden enough naughty ponies that clinging on is a talent I have gained!!!
Previous ponies all gained me the 7+ falls I needed to say I was a rider!

Had Chester nearly 2 years and have come off him twice. First time he objected to another horse leaving the school and him staying in there. Resulted in a trip to a&e. No broken bones just lots of bruising and to top it off it was on my birthday too!. Second one was out on a hack having a good blast, saw a plastic sheet in the hedge, spooked and I lay on ny back with Chester looking bemused as to why I was on the floor!
I've actually lost count the amount of times I've come off in 18 1/2 years! Well over 100 I think!

I've had my current horse for almost 2 years and haven't come off at all!
I have come very close a few times but have always managed to stick with him. The latest one was me getting caught in a tree out hunting, luckily the horses in front had bottle necked so I had a chance to pull myself out before we set off again lol!

Spot- 0 (although there were many near misses!)

Leo- 0

collectively thats 2.5 years whilst riding RS ponies/horses as well during that time

and only once that I can remember in the whole 20 years I've been riding (again there have been many near misses!!)

TOUCH WOOD!!! :D

my previous horse was an ex-racer. Came off him only twice in the 20 years I had him (although there was plenty of charging about with very little control!). Current horse I have fallen off more times than I can count in the last 4 years, since I backed him. A few times from walk, and once from a standstill, which was a bit embaressing! And he's really not a naughty horse, just very small and agile.

Had my current mare six and a half years......recon I've easily come off her 50 times, my best was 3 times in one hour. To say she is sharp is an understatement!

Had my boy coming up 4 yrs and have never fallen off him. Come close a few times though, one time being when we landed over a hedge out hunting and he dropped his shoulder and whipped to the right, I very nearly went left, in front of the whole field who was stood watching me *cringe* Only the gods know how I stayed on that day it was very far from elegant :D

AA you really must write a book. There is something about your writing style which just creases me up! :D

Here is another one for you. This happened 20 years ago when I was young and keen.

I used to nip out of work at lunchtime and work my hunter. Just a quick trot down the lane, across a main road, under a road tunnel, sharp left and through a bit of broken fencing and I was on a lovely gradual sloping grassy embankment that belonged to the highways department.

Totally illegal but blooming handy. Six trot ups and walk downs, short hack through a bit of woodland to cool off, back under the tunnel, half a mile home back at my desk in hour and a half.

One particulary cold day my rock steady hunter was rather fresh and anticipating going up the hill. He bounced through the dark tunnel, I am hanging on for grim death and failing to look up or where I am going, horse spooks and spins, I fly off to the left and I also hear a scream and a thud.

I reappear from the bush I landed in to find my horse, head down 'not my fault' on his face, a push bike in another bush, a young (10ish) child in another bush and the childs satchel contents scattered far and wide.

Remarkably the child was not crying, the bike was not damaged, contents of satchel was all found and I did not receive a knock at the door later on ! Needless to say the illegal hill work ceased, I could not disguise the horse as he was huge and snow white, bless him he never did like kids on bikes after that incident.

twice in 5 years (one was me passing out in mid air over a jump!) :D and none in 7months on my other one! Been some close calls though,
