How many times should I visit a day?

I have been going up to the livery twice a day to check on my tb - he's out 24/7 at the moment in the field but I'm just wondering - do you think he'd be ok with once a day visits?

The reason I ask is because he gets a feed in the morning when I go up then the second visit I make if he's not being riden that day is just to check on him. He shares his field with another two tb's and their owners also go up once a day - one in the afternoon and one in the evening. We all check over each others just to make sure they're all ok. Is it still worth me going up twice a day - the second being to check him over - knowing he's already been checked 3 times that day, usually the last time only being half an hour before I get there myself?

Obviously if he needs a rug taking off or putting on due to the weather, I'd be there in a heartbeat to do it but just wondering if he's ok with the amount of visits he's getting anyway?

Just to clarify, if I were to go up once a day it would only be 2 days a week, the rest of the days of the week we do various things so he's bought in/excercised etc.

I feel bad about even asking but don't want him to get fed up of being fussed over so many times a day when all he wants to do is chill out and graze :D

Thanks for reading.

im sure he'll be fine when mines living out and stuffing her face if shes not coming in to be ridden or fed she coulding give two hoots if i was there or not!

going up again just after someone else may be just for your piece of mind?

I check on my mare once per day in the summer and she is absolutely fine - I think she likes the fact that once I'm gone she can then relax with her friends the rest of the day!!!;)

Ours get checked twice a day, one of us does the morning and the other does the evening. As long as you trust whoever is checking them then they will be fine.

Give it a go and see how you feel about it, if you are happy with the arrangement then carry on, if you can can start going up twice a day again.

This is what I'm thinking too. I swear he looked me earlier as if to say 'Really?? Again!?! *sigh*'

Haha. Thanks for your replies. Like I said, I feel guilty asking coz I guess deep down a part of me feels like I'm abandoning him (even though it's only two days a week!!, the rest of the time I'm there at least twice a day) even though I know I'm completely not and he'd much rather be left to get on with it!

Thanks again. You've made me feel a bit better about it :)

Maybe speak to the other owners yours share with and comprise a rota for doing them all so you have peace of mind he's been thoroughly "done" when its not your shift?

Yes, I'm going to speak to them tomorrow and let them know what I'm thinking :) They'll probably ask me why I'm so worried but I am a massive worrier, haha.

Thanks again for always being so helpful guys :)
