Following on from my other post, how many yard staff do you have? We have 44 horses including 10 or so full liveries and 34 Assisted DIY which includes turnout/bring in. Our staff consists of 2 girls in the morning and YO arrives about 9am, then 1 member of staff in the afternoon who works from 3 - 5pm. Seems to work ok apart from takes hours to turn out and bring in and when someone off sick causes a problem. Just interested in the ratio staff to horse at your yards

YO and one other. My yard is essentially DIY with extra's available, and only 3 full liveries.

The person that works at the yard works very hard, but there's really no need for more than him.

We have 17 stabled horses and about 10 ponies that live out on our yard- they have 3 full time staff and loads of temps (i know of at least 4 part time people who come in a lot!).... Its a lot of staff but i am not complaining they look after my horse brilliantly. We are all on part/full livery though and the head boy has to exercise all the full liverys. Part is like full also but without the exercise

Farmer, his wife and their son. 50 horses on yard all turned out in morning by them and about half on full livery also done by them. turning out doesn't take too long as the horses get put out two and three at a time trotting behind the quad bike.

Snowysadude, that sounds like a well oiled machine. Glad to hear you happy with the care your horse receives. We used to have a lot of part/full liveries but gradually people have gone onto DIY maybe because it is too big.

Nothing like you. I have 1 groom who mucks out' feeds, brushes off, rugs up and picks out feet. He does the 10 horses stabled and I do the pony and donkey who live out/field shelter plus the chooks cats and dogs. he does 6 and a half days per week and I will help out if the blacksmith is here or whatever.

We have just 6 horses but all are on training livery and regularly compete.

We have one full time staff member who works 5 1/2 days a week wth one part-time WP who works at least 1 full day a week but usually more days and acts as travelling groom.

Mr Worried does all the riding and then goes off to to teach freelance, while I work full-time and then come home and do evening yards and work weekends and school holidays doing all the tarting and farting like clipping, trimming feed ordering, hay orders etc, etc.

I work at a yard where there are 50 horses all either yarded or stabled. 15 are in work including 2 stallions and the rest are brood mares and young stock. 2 girls live in full time and I work part time mornings only. It's always a rush.......

Currently 17 on full livery, when full it's 21. One FT member of staff, one part time that works morning mon - fri and one part time that works weekends and one afternooon in the week.

20 part liveries (everything except grooming and exercised) and 15 assisted DIYs that are fed, hayed and turned out/brought in.

4 members of yard staff every morning and 2 or 3 in the afternoon. Full time people work 4.5 or 5 days and other people do various hours, including 14/15yr olds at weekends. Always at least 1 full time person working so everything doesn't go to pot at weekends! I'd agree that it's the turning out and bringing in that takes the time, especially when you have 3 separate lots of horses going in each field every day
