How many bits have you ever tried on your horse? Just out of curiosity, I was just thinking about how many we've tried on Toto. We've tried:

Eggbutt snaffle
Loosering snaffle
Pelham
Waterford hanging cheek snaffle
Hanging cheek snaffle with lozenge
Waterford loosering snaffle
Tom thumb gag
Beval bit
Myler comfort snaffle
Balding gag
Cheltenham gag
NS Universal
Dutch gag

And he's also had:
Cavesson
Drop
Flash
Grackle
No noseband
Bitless

What about you?

my cob has had

fulmer french link snaffle
jp snaffle
jp french link snaffle

has a cavesson noseband but we never use it.

she is 12 and i have had her since she was nearly 3.

We use:

Lozenge snaffle for dressage.
Show Pelham for WH.
Wilkie for jumping at home.

We have used:
Bradoon and Curb.
Eggbutt snaffle.

mine have always been in mainly the snaffle family.

had one in a hackamore [sp]

im a fan of the cherry roller [very old fashioned bit i would imagine now]

pelham

thats about it really.

I feel left out.

My mare has had
Fulmer snaffle,
Hanging cheek snaffle,

Bits:
D ring snaffle with copper rollers
plain eggbutt snaffle
sweet iron full cheek snaffle
eggbutt snaffle with copper 1/2 moon
rubber hanging cheek snaffle
(alot of snaffles)
and a sweet iron gag(because she can be quite strong) but is usually just on the snaffle ring not the 2nd or 3rd ring.

Nosebands:
grackle
caverson
no noseband

Bits:

Lozenge dutch gag
Lozenge American gag
English hackamore
Belgian hackamore
Myler combination
Myler comfort snaffle (which I now have control in most of the time!)

She doesn't wear a nose band, when competing she wore a combo bridle that had a headcollar style noseband but it made no difference to how she was being ridden.

Just different variations of a french link....have now found the perfect bit(

just cant remember what it is,lol...tis the french link but everything swivels, dosnt matter which way you attatch it to ya bridle as everything revolves round

,if i could be assed would have a look, lol)
Have used a french link right from breaking onwards...love em

my gelding has:
cherry roller and caveson for flatwork/hacking
sweet iron cheltenham gag and grakle for jumping/hunting

my mare has:
copper dutch gag for jumping, with flash noseband
copper coated eggbut snaffle with cavesson for showing (but little to no control when ridden by anyone not on lead rein!)

on Ron... he came in a vulcanite pelham,
then i put him in a metal one (cos we didn't have a vulcanite one)
then french link dutch gag
then french link snaffle
then myler 04 snaffle
and myler 04 combination for XC

on Tom... he came in a fulmer
we put him in a single jointed eggbutt
he hated it so we put him in a myler 04 and he's stayed there!

both horses are in cavesson nosebands, with flash for faster work/ XC/ Hunting

I've tried on my mare....

pelham
dutch gag
cheltenham gag
fulmer snaffle
french link loose ring snaffle
french link hanging cheek snaffle

flash noseband
grackle noseband
no noseband
cavesson noseband

running martingale
standing martingale
no martingale

The grackle is fairly effective, and I've concluded she pulls her head down not up so the martingale doesn't do anything. And the stronger the bit, the harder she pulls!!
