How messy is your car?

The truck has mud in the footwell, that's it.
OH is a bit (understatement) anal about keeping it tidy.
Currently there are 4 pairs of sunglasses in the console and a tub of mints, in the back there is the usual winter essentials, that's it. Oh and I think a pair of my gloves may have escaped eviction because they were in a door pocket and he hasn't seen them yet. ;)

The bed however last had a couple of round bales in it, so there is hay floating around under a couple inches of snow.

My car leaks in the winter (or rather, anytime it rains heavily, but it can't dry out properly in winter so it perpetually wet!). So not only do I have the usual horsey mess - bits of hay, shavings, mud, dirty saddlecloths, a pair of riding boots I no longer wear etc - but because of the wet, it's also mouldy!!

It's so damp inside, both windscreens and the windows get frosty/icy on the inside if it's cold enough. Always misty have to wait for it to de-fog. The passenger seat & backseat are covered in mould. And the carpet on the passenger side. Driver side doesn't get wet & the seat doesn't get mouldy... but I do have to wipe off the steering wheel & gear stick every time I drive it!! :D

Disgusting. I'm the first to admit!! It gets a good scrub every now and then (plan on doing so this week, in fact) but this time of year, it just gets mouldy again a week or so later. It's gross!!

I've had a couple of mechanics take a look and none of them have been able to find out why it leaks. I can't afford to get a new car so I'm stuck with it. It's a reliable little motor and never let me down so I will put up with it's one problem!

Of course, I wouldn't have to if OH would stop being so precious about his car and agree for us to share - it's not just me, he doesn't want anyone near it... but that's another story!

driver footwell gets muddy but rest of car interior is really clean and not horsey.

Boot is full of wellies, boots, gloves, jackets etc so IS a mess and tbh i leave it a mess as impossible to keep it really clean.

so half and half!

Mine is fairly respectable on the inside - I have a back seat hammock, and all the horse stuff goes in the boot.
There was a little incident recently though - when I thought I'd see if it did off-roading...

My old truck was truly horrendous. I cleaned it thoroughly inside and out before picking up my very non-horsey brother on our way to parents for xmas. He has allergies so I made sure it was as spotless as possible. He got in and said "I thought you said you'd cleaned the truck?!" And proceeded to sneeze due to horse/dog hairs for the whole 4 hour journey! Most days you couldn't see the foot well on passenger side for food wrappers, as I practically lived in the car- straight from yard to work back to yard and then home, so I ate on the go..! And the whole back seats were full of clothes for any occasion, riding boots, hat, bits of tack etc. And the truck bed tended to always have a dog or two in!
Anyway, it died a horrible death last week, so I've got a new (well, new to me) spotless Nissan pathfinder which I'm picking up tomorrow. Refusing to get it dirty, it's soo clean and smart inside! I give myself a month...! ;)

Ha ha - good timing because mine is the cleanest it has been in two years! I washed the outside yesterday and sorted out the inside a couple of weekends ago.

I do carry a lot of spare stuff as a matter of course - pair of wellies, hi-vis jacket, shovel, spare socks and gloves, headcollar, ropes etc etc. However, I found a sturdy bag that a new rug had come in and I've used that to store a lot of the stuff such as waterproof trousers, rope, kagoul, tyre pump etc. That means I can get the shopping on the back seat now - vital if I've backed into a space or have dogs with me.

I do use it to cart stuff around and have two large dogs (down from four when I bought my car) so it is never going to be spotless. I bought it new seven years ago and demanded waterproof seat covers and rubber mats throughout, which are brilliant. The only problem is that I've never seen my lovely leather seats as I've never taken the covers off. Good job too, given that my clipper oil leaked all over the front seat over Christmas.

I've never hoovered it out though so it does have a layer of hay, hair on mud on every visible carpet surface...

my old car used to be disgusting, but since i bought a brand new one last year i try and keep it clean. I usually do a weekly clean out, change my shoes and leave my wellies at the yard 90% of the time. I also take it to the local car wash and have it cleaned once a month (because i am lazy and it is way too cold to do it myself) in the summer i tend to wash it. Trying to keep it clean is very difficult, but it can be done.

My previous car did resemble a mobile stable, and when i did take it for them to clean inside and out, i did feel sorry for them! They did do a great job though.

Ha Ha brilliant thread!

I think my OH is rueing the day he bought us a new HiLux...... its my main car so everything goes in it, front and back. Usually have dog cage in back so have to put most of my trammel in the cab. Dog has already scratched the dashboard (I am embarrassed about that)

I used to have a LWB Transit which even though I used it for work I could carry loads of 'essential' stuff with me! I did have a mouse living in the back of that for quite a long time

Mine is kept very clean. I rinse boots off before getting in, bought rubber mats for the floor rather then carpet ones it came with so whilst the mats get muddy naturally, easy to clean. Also I don't carry unneccessary stuff around and empty it of any rubbish I bring back from the yard straight away. Think it's been drilled in to me from a young age!

This. I recently got a new car and it's still 'My baby' so I'm very previous about it and keeping it clean! I had an old Corsa until recently when it gave up the ghost (Mind you, I had been driving it round since I passed my driving test 5 years ago and it was old when I got it!) but people always used to say they had no idea how I kept it so clean when I had a horse! Similarly to Gina though, it was drummed into me, even before I started driving to keep my car clean and that there was no excuse for it being unhygenic and a messy! I guess it has just stuck with me! I do keep a lot of my riding stuff, like hat, gloves, wellies, hi-viz etc in the boot but the wellies are thoroughly rinsed off and put in a carrier bag before they even go near the car and the rest of my riding stuff lives in a plastic box so loose hair, mud etc that falls off will collect at the bottom of the box and is easier to clean! My leather boots live in the house as again, they are new and I don't really want to leave them in the car with boot trees etc in them.

I don't think I could stand driving a messy car lol! I have no problem with getting in other peoples cars if they are a mess though, nor would I ever dream of passing comment or telling someone to clean their car!

Shockingly clean inside, filthy outside. Only had it a few months and clean it inside every weekend - my mum insists as she lent me the money to buy it! I get all horsey stuff moved via hubbys van!!!

The front is ok, I try to keep this presentable. The back and boot are a different story, currently I have coats, gloves, muddy wellies, headcollar, made up buckets of feed in the back and god knows what in the boot!

My husband moans every now and again but I just keep telling him there is nothing I can do until winter is over. There is going to be a mass clear out and clean once Spring arrives :-)

Mines spotless.

Doesn't have to be gross because you have horses. My boots are changed before driving home into a bag in the boot, my coat is taken off and put in another bag in the boot.

I don't transport things in my car as I have no need to. If I feel I'm going to get particularly mucky at the stables I bring spare clothes to change into.

Same. Having a car full of hay/staw and smelling of horse poo and bits of tack would drive me absolutely potty.

I spend a fair bit of time in my car, I have to have colleagues and often clients in there too, it is valeted at least once a month because I hate any kind of smells.

Sure, it is filthy on the outside - I live on a farm and work in the countryside, but I draw the line at putting anything more equine than an unopened bag of feed in my car - that's what defenders were designed for.

The outside of my car is always mud splattered and I don't care about that but the inside is pretty clean - in an ideal world it would be completely spotless. All passengers are requested (told) to keep their feet on the mats :D

I change my boots before i drive and they are in a bag in the boot, so i keep mine relativley clean! The dog sits on a towel on the passanger seat :) Helped by the fact an inside and out valet is only £14 round here, so it gets done quite often!

So that's why I've got a Defender!

This my cars spotless can't stand messy cars !!

Mine is a tip and combined with transporting dogs a really smelly car too! I have also had comments when I have had it cleaned that they have never dealt with a car as dirty as mine! I recently had a hire car due to my one being repaired and was very good at keeping the inside clean but the sales person asked if I had horses as the outside was covered in mud from driving to and from the yard!

really bad.. like I can't actually have anyone else in it except me and the dog. I have a husky and his fur is ingrained into the entire car interior, also straw and mud. The outside is splattered with mud and it has a soft top with some plant growing on it. On my second set of rubber mats and my bumper is held on with cable ties. I did have a cover over the back seat, so I could at least take that off if I had any passengers, but for some reason the underneath is worse without the cover!
I thought about taking it to the garage and pay the blokes to wash it for me, but I actually think they would tell me to sling my hook! I'll clean it myself...one day...

Drifts of hay, riding gloves and discarded sundry kids clothing. Bits of tack, ropes, brushes. Last time I cleaned it out, I found a fence post!

It gets a proper mucking out for weddings and funerals - and of course when it dies, I remove anything of value and leave the rest to be weighed in at the scrap yard - so I get some money back for the bits of gravel and anything that's too far gone to rescue.

Mines not TOO horrendous but definitely not sparkling. The smell of horse seems to have ingrained itself into the car but it's only other people that can smell it!

Yep disgusting and smelling like anything horsie possible! Oh well luckily both me and hubbie are horsie so we don't mind and anybody else is just lucky to get a lift :D

So after posting in this thread yesterday about how gross (yet reliable) my car is, I decided to clean it that afternoon.

It now won't start.

Zero motivation to ever clean it again.

I like my car clean inside, ive got ruber mats ontop of my normal mats so i can just shake them out as theres always a collection of mud mixed with hay and wood chips. I don't like my non stable clothes getting covered in horse. Sometimes when car goes into the garage I wonder what they must think, but they clean it inside and out and I'm sure they have seen lots worse. If they look in the boot however it could be mistaken for something kinky with whips, boots etc!!!!!

It was disgusting! But I got a new car just before xmas and I'm making an effort to keep it clean. Dogs aren't allowed on the seats and I got a boot tray and liner that I can empty all the mud and hay out of!
