I'm having a bit of a nightmare with my horse eating at the moment. I'm feeling really guilty that she dislikes her feed and also worrying that she is leaving her supplements which she needs. I've been doing an elimination diet with her due to allergies and so don't want to rush into re-introducing anything. She's only on speedibeet and dengie hi fi molasses free at the moment. So I was thinking on a short term basis of adding apple juice to her feed and just wondered what type of amounts people add? She's only on small feeds about half a scoop hifi and similar amount speedibeet - its just really so she eats her supplements and we want to find something she likes so we don't feel so guilty! Until she went on the elimination diet she was really enjoying her feed. I'm just unsure what amount of apple juice to add to her feed so would be grateful for any suggestions please? She has 3 feeds a day so I'm thinking half a cupful in each feed would be too much sugar - but don't really know how much other people add. Thanks Lucy

Personally I wouldn't bother with apple juice - too sweet and need too much to make anything more palatable. Try mint instead. you can buy tubs of it at your feed merchant relatively cheaply and a measure of it per feed will be more than enough...

Thanks for the reply, that's a great idea - have just ordered some samples of mint so hopefully that will work. Just need something to tide me over until they arrive so any tips on the apple juice amounts still appreciated! Thanks

apparently the asda fizzy apple juice is a winner, according to someone whose horse is not eating due to cushings ( effects of prascend), you don't need to add much, a tablespoon if i remember rightly :)

Thanks for the tip, never thought of the fizzy apple juice! If apple juice doesn't work will have to temporarily go back to molasses until the mint comes and then hopefully that will work!
