Really lacking time this winter I hate being able to not ride the horses every day we've got three in and I'm suffering from glandularfever and by the time I've done a days work at racing yard they are perhaps getting worked 3 times a week with the eventer a bit more all getting out hunting just feel rubbish not having the time the energy everyday as I like them to be worked as much as possible with a day off a week, how much is everyone else's horses being worked ? Can anyone make me feel better ! Roll on the days getting lighter hate having to be on the school a lot!

I can make you feel better! Mine have not been ridden for well over a month. My friend left the yard so all alone and no one with ride with. So I just haven't bothered. So your doing much better than me ☺️ At the moment I don't even feel bad about it. They live out and seem quite happy!

I'm managing 4 times, wish I could do more, need to give up work - where did I put that lottery ticket!

I have a 120 mile commute (round trip) so it's tough.

Few times a week, well one of them i taking it slow after coming back into work.
The ex racer is about once a week as sister works shifts and has been ill
One keeps injuring himself
The other needs backing in the spring
The last one is retired...

Makes me feel a tad better and yours are out so they can move around plenty mine are our all day but very heavy wet land so they have to come in at night. Roll on spring :)

My mare gets ridden 5-6times a week. I'm trying to rebuild her fitness up again after injury and as she has arthritis I need to keep her in as much work as possible. I work from home most of the time, so that helps. She has the days off when I am away.

New horse at livery with a massive wonderful school which we are in every day. Occasional day off due to my work commitments. Having about 6 lessons a month as well as competing every other weekend approx.

Not as much as she should be! We're hacking maybe once or twice a week, then schooling about once a week. I'll admit I'm a fair weather rider, but Lola doesn't seem to mind the time off!

It's a major struggle isn't it, I'm grateful I just have one to do. He is pretty high maintenance though. He gets turned out for 10hours a day but in a relatively small field so without daily work he gets cabin fever and goes a bit mad! So I'm trying for hacking Saturday and Sunday and then at least 4 days a week in the school (in the pitch dark!). Between working a full time job and a part time job I don't have the energy and enthusiasm to keep him interested schooling 4 days a week so I usually do two schooling sessions of 45min each (polework if moon is bright enough!) and two loose schooling/trick training sessions for 20-50mins each.

But if I had a horse I could just lob in a field and just ride at weekends at the moment I would! And I wouldn't feel bad about it!

I am similar to MoodyMare, I work from home 3/4 days a week so the horses get ridden 5/6 times a week. They don't get ridden the days when I have to be in the office.

I've decided to quite riding in winter for now. He has been off since his last event mid October. Shoes off and hairy until beginning of feb. First event end of April. Is that enough time lol?

Nothing for 8 weeks but not by choice as he is recovering from op. Hoping to start walking next week, forecast is for rain every day yay!!

Varies with my work hours and weather - Trying to lunge twice a week and ride at lest once... Moving onto part livery next month so should get more time for riding :)

Did I read properly that you have glandular fever? If so, fair play to you for managing what you are. I had it badly and was off work 3.5 months and struggled to do anything physical for 10.

Please dont underestimate the fact that you're ill. They'll be fine and you will mend quicker if you don't push yourself! I overdid it and ended up being ill for longer as it really pushed my recovery back.

Ps mine is getting worked 3/4 days a week by my lovely sharers as ive had knee surgery and cant ride.

3-4 days a week during the winter months. It's very much weather dependent though - if it's hissing it down I'll give it a miss :) we have no school, just a paddock that gets muddy and slippery when wet so it's mostly hacking. We're surrounded by woodland so if it's gale force winds, hacking is out due to the trees coming down. At least the days are getting longer now- roll on spring :D

She gets ridden 6 days a week but only because I have a sharer for her who does 3 days and I do 3 days. Nothing strenuous, schooling/general riding during the week and hacking both days at the weekend. She's coming back from a lameness that had her out of work for most of last year so we are doing small low level exercise regularly. Seems to be doing the trick!

I haven't ridden since the first week of December and as Celt is out 24/7 unclipped and unrugged not sure how much riding I will do over the next few months.

My lad is ridden by a paid rider twice a week and I ride at the weekend, hoping to do one hack and a lesson, or a show.
My other lad is mainly retired so he only goes out for a stroll every now and then.

Uhhh glandular fever?! You seriously should not be riding at all, your spleen could have swollen and if you fall off and burst it that could be a fatal situation! I was banned from riding for four weeks due to this reason (plus I was incredibly tired for about 2 months). I did however hop on my pony once as she was playing up for the girl riding her and kept running out at a jump - two jumps in canter (whilst growling at said pony) had me knackered and panting when I dismounted.

Glandular fever is a perfectly good reason to not do anything other than the basics and to take it slowly.

But in answer to your question my mare is getting 3/4 days a week, mostly flatwork, hacking and when time is limited she's lunged. Seriously you're doing plenty to keep them going especially whilst ill!

Mine is on holiday..........so am I and we are both loving it!

We don't have a school, the days are dark and miserable, we'd just moved yards and tbh she hasn't really had any real time off in years so at the beginning of December, it was off with her shoes and feet up for her and me.

The spring will soon be here and we'll be Off and out all the time, but for now and I make no apologies or take any guilt trips as we are both chilling.
