I was just wondering really. As i'm the only one in my family who's on straw and mats, all the others are on minimal bed and mats, I take out about a barrow and a half more than them, and dad tends to complain about size of muckheap

So how much do you take out?

well i have shavings on mats, only prob is messy messy horse who tramples poo everywhere so i muck out by chucking all the shavings up at the back and collecting the poo that falls down!! Quite effective actually but takes forever!! Anyway Im rambling!! Ends up being about half a small wheelbarrow as just get the poo and the wet, dont waste good shavings this way!! However, if my sharer has done him the day before then i literally have to take out 3/4 wheelbarrows. thats most of the bed!!i despair!! i dont know what she does!!!!!

about a barrow a day - that includes dropped hay too.

its always been the same for me regardless of bed (had normal shavings bed, minimal on mats and now deep litter shavings)

I have two on straw and mats and usually take a heaped wheelbarrow out of one and currently less then a wheelbarrow out of the other (but thats because he is eating all his straw)

my mare is reaaaaaaaaaaallllyyy messy so i end up taking 3/4 wheel barrows out most days!! its always a min of 2! she seems to trample it all together (im on straw)

I'm on straw and take out about half a barrow a day then once a week she gets a big muck out and then I take out about 3 barrowfuls and put lots of lovely fresh straw down and make it really fluffy again! I love that bit!

I'm on mats and straw, only cover half the stable with banks and have a messy horse. He's not too bad if he gets done at 6am (during the week) and I'll only take a barrow or less out. But I take out up to two barrows worth sometimes on a weekend if he (and I

) have had a lie in

I take 1 wheel barrow out per day and then every saturday I do a really good muck out (under the banks) and get out about 4/5! I envy those that have clean horses!

Same here (deep litter shavings). Virtually all I take out is poo and left over hay.

about a barrow a day per horse, maybe a bit more. straw is a drainage bed not an absorbency bed though so it'll always be different in that respect... you'll get more wastage (unless the stable drainage is perfect) because the urine will run through it and soak quite a lot from underneath. a good absorbency bed keeps the urine in 1 small area (as long as horse doesn't trek it around!)

I use Aqua Max.
I can muck out up to 3 horses with one barrow. Their last skip out is at 8.45pm and they go out at 8am, meaning very quick and easy mucking out in the morning.

I'd hate to go back to shavings, and the last time I used straw was years ago and my mum did the mucking out back then, so I can't remember what straw was like.

mine is on straw
i take out poos, so any straw thats attached to them although as little as possible!
then all the wet stuff
usually its about 1 heaped barrow

i try and take out as little as possible. and put in a slice of big straw every other day

Im on straw with 75% rubber matted underneath- cobbled floor and both boys tend to wee right over the drains, which are in the centre of my stables.

They are both deep littered, and I take about half a barrow out a day- I have mega beds so its only poo that comes out.
When I do 'do' a big muck out (usually every month) I take about 4 barrows out.

I know my system only works due the convenient location of the drains, and the fact that I put more straw in every other day.

Shavings bed, no mats. 1/2 barrow wet shavings, half barrow poo (actually in a tubtrug if we're being pedantic, but definitely 1/2 barrow's worth.

Aquamax bed, no mats 1/3 barrow poo and the wet patch. I never mix the wet patch back in.

That's pretty much how it is every day. Both fully mucked out every day.

I'm on full rubber matting and shavings. I take out 1/2 - 3/4 of a wheel barrow each morning. This includes hay, wee and poo. I have to get it all out and hate to see bits of poo in my finished bed
