two of mine are on shavings and they go thorugh one bale a week each so about £29 each a montn
the other three are on straw.
one has a big bale a month (stored in his stable and he doesn't eat it)
the other two abouth three as one box walks and is filthy but cheaper on straw than shavings these are about £40 pound an month for the straw.

Bought a large round bale
of straw for £20 in October and its still going strong. I fill one of those large builder bags once a week to top bed up . She is a fairly clean horse and i remove a barrow a day, i love straw its such good value and you get loads for £20. :)

I use about 12 bales of Bedmax and 2 bags of Megazorb which costs me about £100 every 4 weeks. I don't skimp, and if I need to add extra, I do.

I get one bag of shavings a week included in the price of my livery and then normally buy an extra every couple of weeks so probably average about 6 bales a month.

When on straw - two big bales a month (so £30/month) . . . top up with clean every other day.

When on shavings - approx two bales/week (so £60-odd/month).

I love straw.

i get a bale of shavings a week with my livery - don't use them all a lot of the time so probably 3 bales a month on average, sometimes less and through the summer none, she comes in during the day but i don't put any more bedding down till she ones in at night!

Using Laysoft this winter (25kg) & after putting in a v deep bed at end October, am using approx 1 bale every 10 days to 2 weeks for CF.

Tiny Fuzzy is any owners idea of heaven as had 4 bales down to make a half bed in her stable in August last summer; has been in at night full time since end Oct (only in before that if weather foul) and to date has had half a bale put in..... she is 'deep litter' tho & rarely pee's in her stable, so is very easy to do. To make things more easy, her teeny piles of droppings are usually left in 1 little heap & in total fill 1 & half poo-picker bucket for approx 12/14 hrs in :)

I use Bedmax and have to deep litter due to a large and messy mare and get through at least 2 bales a week although at a slightly reduced cost as I bought a pallet at the beginning of winter. I try not to add up the cost as I know straw was much cheaper and the stable is large with a big bed but due to feather mites I was advised shavings would be better.

Two bags of shavings per week (£6 each) so £48
YO puts two bags outside your stable every Friday unless you tell him you only want one or three etc.
I usually have at least half a bag left by the time Friday comes around again.
I could use less but I like him to have a big bed.
Only moved to this yard at the end of summer so not sure what it will be like in the height of summer. When I moved and he was out during the day, one per week was plenty. Over summer this year he'll probably mostly live out so maybe two per month, depending on how often I bring him in.

I use wood pellets and bulk buy in - which totals about 3.30 a bag. I use one bag a week for my big boy - but he is a very tidy horse (only poos in one corner in a pyramid style fashion and always tiddles in the same place) so it works out at a whopping 13.20 a month for him. Mini shetland gets topped up about once a month. But again. she's very tidy. Mind you, at the beginning of October they had 7 bags put in each to start them off. But monthly, very cheap.

I've been on wood pellets and shavings with a very wet and messy mare. She did have mats under the bed too.

Wood Pellets - 1 to 2 bags a week, about £4 a bag so minimum £16/month, max £32
Shavings - 2 bales a week @ £8/bale = £64

I'm planning on trying straw if she ever needs to be stabled again. Will never go back to shavings, regardless of how pretty and fluffy they look. And will never go back to wood pellets as the bed was always damp, regardless of how many new bags she had a week.

Section A - 1 x aubiose a week

Section B - 1 x straw and 1x bliss a week

It would work out about £80 a month but I work at a feed and bedding supplier so pay less

That's no skimping though, always nice clean decent beds

I use one bale of shavings a week at £8 per bale so roughly £32 per month. I have changed the way I muck out as was wasting too much money on bedding. I started off with a huge shavings bed and only take the pee out once a week. It works remarkably well - I still have a really big bed and it's clean. The pee usually stays at the bottom (I have about 3 inches of clean shavings on top).

I use Aubiose on deep litter for my 16.3hh mare who's fairly messy. I get through two bales per week (though she's in some days during winter at the moment so sometimes it doesn't quite last the week) at £10 per bale, so about £80 per month on average.

Wow i wish i used as little bedding as this!!
My ones on shavings get 2 -3 bales a week depending on how things are going, the straw ones get a flap each every day from a big Heston bale.
